SUMMARY : The Dual Language Immersion Program integrates native English-speaking students with native Spanish speaking students for elementary academic instruction, which is presented in both languages. Social and academic learning occurs in an environment that values the language and culture of all students and sets high standards to ultimately achieve academic success in Spanish and English.

Job Tasks Descriptions




  • Provide standards based academic content instruction in both English and Spanish.





  • Utilize appropriate separation of languages to promote high levels of language acquisition.





  • Promote metalinguistic awareness and metacognitive skills and leverages students\xe2\x80\x99 bilingualism by strategically incorporating cross-linguistic strategies.





  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the district\xe2\x80\x99s curriculum program. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for individual student differences.





  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned and present subject matter according to guidelines established by state standards, board policies, and administrative regulations.





  • Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities. Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal assessments.





  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students. Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures.





  • Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, guardians, students, colleagues, and community members.





  • Disaggregate and analyze student data to adjust instruction, enhance student learning, and inform professional practice. Utilize multiple measures of assessments in both English and Spanish to collect and analyze data and inform instruction.





  • Collaborate with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents, and a variety of community resources for the purpose of improving the overall quality of student outcomes, achieving established program objectives in support of the school improvement plan.





  • Participate in a variety of meetings, workshops, trainings, and seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.





  • Prepare a variety of materials (e.g. grades, attendance, anecdotal records, etc.) for the purpose of documenting student progress and meeting mandated requirements.





  • Report incidents for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment, and adhering to district policies.





  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE :
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in early childhood education or elementary education.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS or CERTIFICATIONS :
  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance
  • Wyoming teachers license in Early Childhood or Elementary Education required.
  • Dual Language Immersion or English as a Second Language endorsement preferred.

TECHNICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, & ABILITIES :
  • Oral and written fluency skills in both English and Spanish
  • Knowledge of bilingual education programs and teaching strategies/techniques
  • Knowledge of best practices in DLI education
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Ability to gather, collate, and/or classify data
  • Ability to foster an academically rigorous dual language education program
  • Ability and willingness to adhere to attendance expectations and to follow district procedures for absence reporting
  • Ability to promote and follow Board of Trustees policies, District policies, and building and department procedures
  • Ability to communicate, interact, and work effectively and cooperatively with all people including those from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds
  • Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate/required safety equipment, and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator

MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT OPERATING KNOWLEDGE :
  • Operating knowledge of and experience with personal computers and peripherals
  • Operating knowledge of and experience with typical office equipment, such as telephones, coper, email, etc.
  • Operating knowledge of web-based programs.
