Full-time, Monday-Friday when school is in session and in accordance with the school calendar, for the remainder of the 25-26 school year.
Position Summary:
The Building Substitute Teacher serves as an on-site, daily substitute teacher available to fill in for absent teachers and/or other staff as needed. This individual is assigned to a specific school building and works under the direction of the building principal. This role is essential to maintaining continuity of instruction and supporting a safe, positive and effective learning environment for students.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Bachelor's degree in education or a related field, preferred.
Must have or be eligible for a State of Michigan Substitute Teaching Permit.
Previous experience working with children in an educational setting is preferred.
Successful completion of a criminal background check is required.
Must have the ability to manage a classroom and communicate effectively with students and staff.
Flexibility, dependability and strong organizational skills are required.
Ability to use computer technology efficiently including Google Drive, Gmail, word processing, PowerPoint, etc.
Strong written and oral communication skills
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide classroom instruction in accordance with lesson plans left by the regular classroom teacher.
Manage student behavior to maintain a safe and productive classroom environment.
Supervise students in classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, playgrounds, and during transitions.
Deliver instruction in a variety of subject areas and grade levels based on daily staffing needs.
Adapt quickly to schedule changes and take initiative to support instructional and non-instructional areas (specials, lunchroom, office coverage, field trips, etc.).
Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and promotes positive behavior.
Maintain accurate and timely records of student performance and attendance.
Collaborate with teachers and administrators to ensure a smooth transition for students during teacher absences.
Maintain confidentiality of student and staff information.
Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and school events as assigned.
Follow school policies, procedures, and emergency protocols.
Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal.
Evaluation:
Performance will be evaluated annually by the building principal in accordance with district policies.
