Job Summary

This is an entry level Engineering position related to the operation of the Transmission and Distribution system. The
Engineer uses existing procedures and processes to solve routine or standard problems. Work is under relatively
close supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine, basic engineering analyses, designs and calculations using existing procedures and processes to
solve routine or standard problems while applying limited judgment and discretion. Identifies solutions to
straightforward requests.
  • Develop basic engineering knowledge. Prepare, maintain, and understand drawings (e.g. schematics, one-line
diagrams). Develop and specify equipment, assemble documents and other requirements for basic assignments.
  • Develop competencies with departmental design standards, applicable engineering codes, design criteria and
guidelines, applicable industry codes, and UI policies and processes.
  • Develops team effectiveness skills within own work team. Communicates information and responds to standard
internal/external customer requests with assistance from others.
  • Coordinate work with other departments within UI, external customers and other outside system operators (e.g.
ISO, CONVEX, Eversource). Participate on teams/projects that solve basic problems, taking a broad perspective to
identify innovative solutions.
  • Review standard internal/external customer requests. Coordinate basic planned outages. Prepare drawings,
construction and material orders, and cost estimates for incorporation into final plans depending on others for
instruction, guidance and direction to meet deadlines.
  • Works to specify and design systems to address basic situations. Apply design standards, industry codes, design
criteria, guidelines and UI polices/procedures to basic assignments.
  • Works within technical guidelines and direction provided by others to meet deadlines. Contribute to projects or
process teams.
  • Develops an awareness of costs related to own work and understands the company\'s business management
practices. May contribute to project or process teams.
  • Perform basic equipment selection research and recommendations with supportive documentation.
  • Analyze and assess solutions using standard procedures and identify innovative solutions. Investigate and
analyze outage events, power quality or system Distribution and identify areas for reliability improvement.
  • Must be available for emergency response as necessary.
Skills and Requirements

This position requires a bachelor\'s degree in an engineering discipline from an ABET accredited college/ university.
Electrical Engineering degrees are preferred in Electric Transmission and Distribution (ETD). Individual should have
a basic knowledge of engineering theories, practices and procedures. Able to communicate information, ask
questions and check for understanding. Able to work in a team environment and learn key business processes.
