We are actively seeking an Engineer in Training to join our team and pursue their path to becoming a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.).
The Opportunity
This is an exceptional entry-level position offering broad exposure to all facets of structural engineering design and inspection. The EIT will work directly under the supervision of a Professional Engineer, gaining the necessary experience and mentorship required for licensure. This role is ideal for a recent graduate looking to accelerate their career, build a strong portfolio, and contribute to the structural integrity of the Philadelphia built environment.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Analysis Support:
Assist in the design and analysis of various structures, including new single-family residential homes and commercial buildings.
Drafting & Documentation:
Produce detailed technical drawings and construction documents using AutoCAD for all structural engineering projects.
Structural Evaluation:
Participate in the evaluation of existing structures, including assessments of unsafe conditions, and help develop appropriate remedial design solutions.
Field Work & Site Visits:
Conduct site visits to various locations across Philadelphia to gather necessary data, take measurements, and observe construction progress.
Special Inspections:
Perform
Special Inspections
(a major component of this role) in accordance with City of Philadelphia requirements and codes, accurately documenting findings and ensuring construction compliance.
Client Communication:
Communicate effectively and professionally with clients, contractors, and project stakeholders to coordinate project requirements and address structural issues.
Project Management Support:
Maintain organized project files, assist with scheduling, and ensure all documentation (reports, calculations, drawings) is complete and accurate.
Qualifications Required
Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in
Structural Engineering
or Civil Engineering with a Structural focus.
Valid Engineer in Training (EIT) certification or commitment to obtaining certification shortly after hire.
Proficiency in
AutoCAD
drafting software.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly articulate technical information to clients and non-technical stakeholders.
Self-motivated, ambitious, and eager to learn and take ownership of tasks.
Must be willing and able to travel to job sites within the Philadelphia area.
Preferred (A Plus)
Familiarity with structural analysis software such as
RISA-3D
or similar programs.
Proficiency with
Microsoft Office
Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Prior internship experience in structural engineering or construction.

Pay: $24.00 - $26.00 per hour
Expected hours: 30 - 40 per week
