responsibilities:
The Senior EHS Specialist will be responsible to implement, manage and monitor EHS programs at the site level. Ensure compliance with EHS policies and regulations including, EPA, OSHA, MA DPH RCP, MA DEP, for site operations. Expected to develop and foster internal client relationships and engagement with EHS programs to minimize employee risk of occupational injury/illness and minimize the environmental impact of our business activities.

  • Contributes to the development and implementation of EHS policies to include LOTO, Confined Space,, Electrical Safety, Pressure Safety, Hot Work, Fall Protection, Powered Industrial Trucks, Fire and Life Safety, Heat Stress, Contractor Safety Management, Hazardous Building Material Management and Training Program Management; create procedures and methods that reflect an advanced understanding of regulatory requirements, business processes, work environment and potential hazards to ensure full compliance requirements and achieve balance between safety considerations, business needs and customer expectations.
  • Independently assesses the methods and procedures of employees and contractors throughout the business to identify potential health and safety risks. Evaluates physical requirements of operators, equipment hazards, workplace conditions, etc. Works with management, process engineers and directly with clients to modify methods and procedures, including acquisition and utilization of new process and safety equipment.
  • Plans, develops and delivers presentations and safety training content that communicates the relevance of EHS information and influences business decisions and worker behavior. Inspires a culture where employees at all levels take ownership for safety.
  • Participates in the evaluation of Indoor Air Quality concerns.
  • Conducts routine EHS inspections of each work area to ensure compliance with EHS guidance and SOPs. Participates as an EHS representative in pre-project safety assessments. Identifies any concerns and makes recommendations for corrective actions / improvements. Engages management, employees and contractors in safety initiatives to eliminate or control safety hazards and reduce risk of injury or negative environmental impact.
  • Investigates near miss reports, accident reports and serious incidents to identify risk of reoccurrence, severity, potential causes, and identify solutions. Interviews various parties involved to obtain facts and circumstances, determine corrective actions and educate on workplace safety. Effectively documents investigation and corrective actions. Follows-up to ensure implementation.
  • Collaborates with management, process engineers, contractors, vendors and others as appropriate to identify and resolve exposures to hazardous/disagreeable conditions within the work environment. Effectively promotes EHS considerations as business requirements and gains commitment and approval for proposed changes.
  • Conducts data analysis review and provides recommendations on leading indicator reporting data; e.g. incident, near miss, and safety observations. Identifies safety trends and tendencies through evaluation of safety performance data.
  • Ensures that appropriate attention, resources, and efforts are provided to meet schedules, fulfill department EHS objectives, achieve expected results, and deliver high quality services.
  • Communicates and administers site and corporate EHS standards and represents EHS staff, providing guidance to other departments for on-site activities and projects and in business discussions.
  • Conducts periodic reviews of current Regulations and changes to ensure ongoing regulatory compliance.
  • Acts as and supports the efforts of first responders providing technical guidance and leadership; securing the area, bringing in required assistance, developing an appropriate response plan to complex situations and ensuring appropriate and timely communication within the EHS team and Management.
  • Builds and maintains effective communication channels and relationships with colleagues, site customers, and outside agencies, gaining commitment to support EHS requirements and initiatives and leveraging relationships to the advantage of EHS and the company\'s business needs.
  • Actively promotes safety rules and awareness. Demonstrates good safety practices at all times including the appropriate use of personal protective equipment. Identify, report and take initiative to correct safety and environmental hazards.
  • Assists in the management of the Billerica site\'s Hazardous Building Materials programs for asbestos containing materials, silica and lead-based paint.
  • Assists in the management of the Fire and Life Safety Program to include training of fire marshals and zone checkers and coordination of annual evacuation drills. Maintains the Billerica site\'s flammable storage permits and annual hot work permits with Billerica Fire Department.

qualifications:
  • Bachelor\'s degree in safety, environmental management, and/or related engineering discipline or equivalent, a Master\'s degree in engineering or science is a plus.
  • Must have thorough knowledge of federal and local EHS regulations, including OSHA and EPA and understanding of their application and impact upon the Billerica site and Medical Imaging operations. Professional certification: ASP, CSP, OHST, CHST, CIH, CHMM or other certifications a plus.
  • Typically requires 5+ years of experience in EHS or related technical role.
  • Extensive knowledge of EHS standards, regulatory requirements, and management systems and ability to access and utilize EHS program information and data management systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, written and verbal communication skills, and an innovative and proactive mindset.
  • Ability to summarize and provide concise reports (oral/written) on evaluations, studies, observations, and make decisions by analyzing the facts, risks and benefits.
  • Understanding of organizational structure, operating culture, effective work styles, and achieving results in a changing environment. Must demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain a professional and effective working relationship with employees at all levels throughout the business and with external entities.
  • Track record as a subject matter expert by internal and external EHS professionals and internal business colleagues and provide technical support to ensure compliance.
  • Extensive knowledge and ability to respond to emergency situations within the Billerica site (biological, radiological, chemical, etc.). Demonstrated ability to remain calm and provide clear direction to others in emergency situations.
  • Is a currently-trained or has the ability to become an OSHA Hazardous Materials Technician or Incident Commander.
  • Holds a current Massachusetts Hoisting License, or has the ability to obtain, for forklift use - Class 1C or 1D.
  • Ability to become qualified for use of N95 respirator and powered air-purifying respirator.
  • Ability to become CPR, First Aid and Adult AED certified and to serve as a member of the Billerica site\'s Medical Emergency Response Team.
  • Limited travel required on an as needed basis (i.e. off-site training courses).
