Job Description

JOB FUNCTION:



1.

The person in this position is responsible for ensuring company standards and expectations (in the form of programs, processes, policies, procedures, and forms) are compliant, clear, available, and followed while assisting others in becoming or staying compliant (including audits and inspections), supporting issue and incident resolution, managing and administering safety management and other relevant systems, and generally serving as a subject matter expert for safety professionals and managers across the businesses.

Under the direction of the Director, Safety and Training, ensure the company applies best practices, creates conditions to be efficient and compliant, prioritizes well-being, provides reliable and timely information, researches and analyzes information and data to inform timely and relevant reporting, and leads action and initiatives that align with company missions and values and ensures company employees get consistent and professional advice and recommendations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

. Own, define, and maintain approved company EHS programs, processes, systems, policies,


procedures, and forms (US and Canada), ensuring they are followed/used - work to ensure the


team is not only compliant but following best practices.

. Lead company EHS plans (e.g., EHS metric reporting, Safety and Health and ESG Programs, Safety


Observation Program, annual EHS strategic goals, etc.).

. Lead and ensure training and development for direct reports and EHS professionals across the


organizations, creating a network of informed and supportive teammates.

. Ensure leaders have relevant information readily available and confirm they use the information to


plan work (from safety data sheets to EHS studies and research).

. Serve on and help lead division and corporate safety committees; review and discuss EHS needs


while supporting priorities, providing updates, and supporting training to ensure effective EHS


practices and compliance.

. Coordinate with and support progress for managers in all key EHS areas, including regulatory


compliance and knowledge (EPA, OSHA, MSHA, etc.) for relevant company work and hazards.

. Apply subject matter expertise to ensure industry best practices and assist to ensure compliance


with EHS requirements that may require study or testing, repairs/upgrades, and other project


work.

. Conduct or ensure the completion of relevant, routine, and useful audits and inspections to drive


corrective actions that are tracked and reported.

. With the Training and Development Manager, train or ensure training for employees to audit and


inspect facilities, work sites, vehicles, equipment, etc. so hazards are understood, identified, and


eliminated or otherwise controlled.

. Provide direction to and/or support for correcting identified problems in a timely manner with a


process that ensures corrective actions were taken and completed.

. Ensure a robust incident prevention approach is in place and understood while maintaining


preparedness for coordinated and effective incident response mechanisms that ensure the best


outcomes possible.

Support investigators, determine incidents and investigations requiring corporate review, conduct


reviews, and ensure corrective actions are taken.

. With the Procurement and Logistics Teams, ensure EHS materials and supplies are appropriate, on


hand or available in sufficient quantities, and properly issued for use while supporting tracking and


controlling inventories.

Assist with EHS-related training and development, creating content and conducting classes that


improve the knowledge, skills, and behaviors of all employees.

Support the Security Team in efforts to improve company and work conditions, including the


maintenance of emergency action plans and the conduct of drills.

. Support leaders and safety professionals as an expert, providing advice and aiding in the creation of


work or response plans, the conduct of customer or agency audits or investigations, etc. when


conditions, events, or hazards require that support.

With the Director, liaise with external organizations, customers, community leaders, etc. to create


or enhance relationships, respond to incidents, etc.

Track, analyze, and report relevant and useful information and data to ensure company leaders can


make informed decisions in a timely, routine manner.

Partner with company teammates to ensure alignment in methods, resolving issues to support the


company mission, values, and EHS goals and providing mutual support to prevent gaps or


oversights.

. Reevaluate the effectiveness of EHS programs, processes, systems, policies, procedures, and/or


forms, act when needed (routinely) based on best practices or standards; innovate and lead


needed EHS change in the company.

. Perform other duties, as directed.

QUALIFICATIONS:



1.

Bachelor's or higher Health and Safety degree preferred with 5 years-experience.

2.

Advanced industry and regulatory knowledge (EPA, OSH, MSH, NFPA, ANSI, etc.).

3.

Communication, interpersonal, analytic, problem-solving, and customer service skills with ability to


discreetly handle confidential and sensitive data.

4.

Proficiency in safety management and Office systems and software (admin level).

5.

Travel estimated at 40% or less for the first year, reduced thereafter (episodic).
