The General Educational Assistant with a focus on student supervisory duties plays a critical role in maintaining a safe, orderly, and positive learning environment for all students. This individual will primarily be responsible for supervising students in various classroom and non-classroom settings, ensuring adherence to school rules and policies, and promoting respectful and cooperative interactions among students. The ideal candidate will be proactive, vigilant, possess excellent communication skills, and demonstrate a strong commitment to student well-being and success.
Key Responsibilities:
Student Supervision:
Supervise students in common areas such as hallways, cafeterias, playgrounds, libraries, restrooms, and during arrival/dismissal times.
Monitor student behavior to ensure compliance with school rules, codes of conduct, and safety guidelines.
Identify and address minor behavioral issues promptly and appropriately, de-escalating conflicts when necessary.
Report serious incidents, concerns, or emergencies to appropriate school personnel (e.g., teachers, administrators, counselors) immediately.
Ensure student safety during transitions between classes, during lunch, and during other non-instructional periods.
Assist with student pick-up and drop-off procedures, ensuring orderly and safe traffic flow.
Supervise students during assemblies, field trips, and other school-sponsored activities as assigned.
Behavioral Support:
Reinforce positive student behavior and promote a culture of respect and responsibility.
Implement established behavior management plans under the guidance of certified staff.
Provide support to students struggling with behavioral challenges, helping them to make positive choices.
Document observed student behaviors as required.
Environmental Monitoring:
Regularly patrol assigned areas to identify and report any safety hazards, maintenance issues, or unauthorized individuals.
Ensure common areas are kept clean and organized.
Communication & Collaboration:
Communicate effectively and professionally with students, staff, parents, and visitors.
Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and other school staff to support student well-being and maintain a consistent school environment.
Participate in professional development opportunities as required.
Other Duties:
Provide general assistance to school staff as needed, which may include light clerical duties or support with school events.
Administer basic first aid under the direction of a trained professional and in accordance with school policy, if certified.
Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or designated administrator.
Qualifications:
Education:
High School Diploma or GED required. Associate's Degree or higher in education, child development, or a related field preferred.
Experience:
Previous experience working with children or adolescents in a supervisory capacity, such as a camp counselor, youth leader, or similar role, is highly desirable. Experience in a school setting is a plus.
Skills & Abilities:
Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).
Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
Excellent observational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to remain calm and effective in challenging situations.
Proactive and responsible approach to student safety and supervision.
Ability to follow directions and work independently as well as part of a team.
Knowledge of basic behavior management strategies.
First Aid and CPR certification preferred, or willingness to obtain upon hire.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, bend, stoop, lift up to 25 pounds, and respond quickly to emergencies. Ability to work indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions.
Compensation & Benefits:
Salary: SR 14 C, $31,742.00 annually. 10-month salary is prorated through 12 months.
