High school diploma or GED required. Must meet New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED) licensure requirements for Educational Assistants. Passage of Paraprofessional Assessment or completion of at least 48 college credit hours (if required by district) to attain Level III Educational Assistant Licensure. Experience working with children in an educational setting is preferred. Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents. Ability to remain calm, patient, and flexible in a variety of situations. Must successfully pass a criminal background check and any other required state and federal screening
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
* Assist teachers with instructional preparation and delivery, including small-group or one-on-one student support. Support students in understanding and completing assignments, reinforcing learning concepts introduced by the teacher. Provide accommodations and modifications as outlined in student IEPs, 504 Plans, or individualized learning plans. Monitor student behavior and implement positive behavior support strategies under teacher or administrator direction. Assist with classroom organization, instructional materials, technology, and record-keeping. Supervise students in various settings, including classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, playgrounds, buses, and field trips. Support personal care needs of students as required (e.g., mobility, feeding, hygiene, toileting) while maintaining dignity and respect.
