Position Title:

Education Specialist, Autism Resources



Reports To:

Director, Autism Resources



Description of Position:



The Education Specialist, Autism Resources position will work closely with the Director of Autism Resources to provide professional learning, training, and technical assistance pertaining to autism spectrum disorder (ASD) for all public schools across the State. This includes classroom consultation; plan development and performance feedback; parent workshops; and training for regular education staff on ASD and evidence-based strategies including those for inclusive practices. This position works with local, state and federal officials to accelerate student learning and academic achievement and to strengthen program delivery.



Major Responsibilities:

Program Support


- Coordinate professional learning opportunities and training for local school and charter school staff who serve students with ASD.
- Provide in-person and virtual professional learning opportunities and training on areas critical to the education and development of students with ASD using lectures, group discussions, team exercises, hands-on experiences, and other formats.
- Provide instructional and behavioral consultation and support to local school and charter school staff.
- Work collaboratively with other State offices or departments to plan and develop data-driven professional learning and provide relevant information when requested.
- Work with local school and charter school staff to determine staff and student needs and prepare lesson plans and learning modules as an instructional guide.
- Plan and implement professional learning opportunities and training for the design, delivery, and setup of online courses; and monitor and evaluate the effectiveness.
- Develop parent/guardian workshops and training.
- Collect and analyze data to monitor and evaluate professional learning and training.

Cross Collaboration with Internal and External Partners


- Collaborate with the autism workgroup staff to oversee the professional learning and training for public schools across the state related to ASD.
- Work collaboratively with other staff and workgroups in all areas to enhance and support the Autism Program.
- Collaborate with the Exceptional Children Resources Workgroup to design systems that best support learners also identified as having a disability.



Essential Qualifications:





Education:


+ Master's degree in Applied Behavior Analysis, Special Education, Speech and Language Pathology or a related field required.
+ Certification in Applied Behavior Analysis preferred.



Experience:


+ Three (3) years of experience working with individuals with ASD.
+ Expertise in evidence-based instruction for people with ASD in classroom, community, and home-based settings preferred.
+ Experience in the provision of professional development activities to individuals and groups.
+ Knowledge and expertise in evidence-based instruction for individuals with ASD, in classroom, community, and home-based consultation.
+ Research skills including data collection, visual representation of data, and data analysis to drive educational programming.
+ Contextual understanding of the Delaware public school system and special education including individualized education programs



Skills:


+ Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
+ Must be proficient in performing responsibilities with minimal supervision.
+ Must be skilled in setting priorities, working under pressure, and working in collaboration with others.
+ Must be able to proactively solve problems with professionalism.
+ Must possess excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to deal with staff in a tactful, congenial, and personal manner.
+ Must understand the Department's organizational aims and objectives.
+ Must be experienced in exercising discretion and confidentiality in all professional duties.



Salary:



Salary Range: $84,554.12 - $131,564.14 annually. The final salary will be determined based on the candidate's education and experience in accordance with the Department of Education's compensation policy. The position includes a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, and vision insurance, participation in the state retirement program, annual, sick, and personal leave, and supplemental benefits options. Direct deposit of payroll checks is a condition of state employment, and employees are paid on a lag pay schedule with the first payment made after approximately one month of employment.
