Job Description


The Editor works under the direction of the Associate General Manager and in collaboration with other editors in the Parish, Schools, and Small Groups Unit and the product development team to set the editorial direction and vision for products. The Editor works in conjunction with the product team and outside authors to create editorial schedules, including key milestones and deadlines, to drive projects efficiently through development, production, and launch. Depending on the project\'s needs, the Editor arranges and coordinates with contractors for writing, editing, copywriting, proofing, and other various contributions.

The Editor also serves in various roles (as indicated per project), including editor, developmental writer, copywriter, and reviewer. The Editor is responsible for the theological review of assigned faith formation resources and collateral to ensure their theological accuracy and completeness, i.e., fidelity to the teachings of the Church. When called for, this position also submits material for nihil obstat and imprimatur review, as well as USCCB Conformity, as indicated.

The Editor ensures that all written material adheres to the Ascension style guide and brand manual and seeks to continually analyze and improve the overall editorial process for improved effectiveness and efficiency.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform developmental writing, editing, copywriting, proofing, and other various editorial services as needed on assigned projects.
  • Review of materials as assigned for style, tone, brand consistency and theological accuracy and completeness.
  • Perform editorial administrative functions, including setting up and maintaining editorial schedules and budgets, maintaining editorial databases and files, maintaining editorial aspects of agreed project management systems, etc.
  • Perform miscellaneous editorial work and duties as assigned, including but not limited to: research, responding to editorial inquiries, reviewing reprints, etc.
  • Participate in creative visioning meetings and collaborate with the product development team to form a vision and framework for a product\xe2\x80\x99s editorial direction.
  • Work closely with the project manager and product development team to integrate the editorial process with the product development schedule, to ensure that editorial tasks are completed on deadline.
  • As assigned, work with various Chancey Offices on imprimatur reviews, and the USCCB\xe2\x80\x99s Office of the Catechism on conformity reviews.
  • Communicate with other Ascension editorial and content teams to ensure editorial consistency across products, in marketing and promotional collateral, and in the digital realm.

Requirements
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s Degree in Marketing, Business, English, Theology, or a related field
  • 5+ years of work experience in publishing, communications, writing, or editing preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to be creative and think outside the box to solve problems
  • Proficiency in MS Office and Google Suite.
  • Passion for developing products that align with Ascension\xe2\x80\x99s Mission and Values.
  • The ability to live out Ascension\'s core values of passion, integrity, and humility is required.
  • The ability to travel to Ascension\xe2\x80\x99s headquarters in Pennsylvania is required.
