EarthCorps brings together passionate and hardworking young adults from across the country to perform environmental service in an AmeriCorps leadership training program in Seattle, Washington. At EarthCorps, leadership development happens out in the field where our corps learns to work collaboratively, lead community volunteers, refine restoration skills, and execute technical projects. Corps members spend their days improving the health of the Puget Sound by returning urban forests, shorelines, community spaces, and salmon streams back to thriving, self-sustaining ecosystems. FIELD SERVICE (80% of program) Crew Members work on a crew of 5-7 young adults completing physical environmental restoration projects. A Crew Leader guides the crew as they complete restoration projects throughout the Puget Sound region (in urban, suburban, and rural settings). Corps members are responsible for the efficiency of accomplishing projects and the quality of the final product under supervision from project staff. TRAINING & WORKSHOPS (20% of program) Corps members also participate in retreats, workshops, and field trainings. These sessions provide skills and context for the restoration work that corps members complete. Topics covered include basic botany and ecology of the Pacific Northwest, environmental restoration theories and concepts, topics in natural resource management, leadership skills, and interpersonal communication.
