DSHS Fircrest - Food Service Worker



Join our team at Fircrest Residential Habilitation Center in Shoreline, WA! As a Food Service Worker in our Dietary Department, you will play an essential role in supporting the health and well-being of individuals with intellectual disabilities. In this position, you will prepare and serve meals, assist with modified diets, maintain a clean and sanitary kitchen, and help ensure a safe and welcoming dining environment. Your work directly contributes to the daily care and quality of life for the people we serve, making every day meaningful.



About Fircrest Residential Habilitation Center



Fircrest Residential Habilitation Center, located in Shoreline just north of Seattle, provides residential support to approximately 200 individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Established in 1959, Fircrest has evolved from a medical model to a person-centered approach that focuses on promoting independence and community integration. The center offers specialized nursing care and habilitative services funded in part by programs regulated by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Fircrest's location provides residents access to major medical and educational facilities, as well as opportunities to engage in a variety of cultural, sporting, and outdoor activities in the Seattle area.




Some of what you'll do:

Prepare and portion food items, including modified diets, salads, desserts, fruits, vegetables, supplements, and thickened liquids. Set up tray lines, dish up meals according to client menus, and prepare dessert, salad, and supplement carts for each meal service. Wash dishes, pots, pans, utensils, trays, and bulk carriers; maintain cleanliness in the ware-washing area. Clean and sanitize kitchen areas, equipment, surfaces, carts, and floors, including performing heavy-duty cleaning as assigned. Label, date, store, and transport food, supplies, and equipment between kitchens, dining areas, storerooms, and refrigerators. Operate standard kitchen equipment such as blenders, toasters, kettles, mixers, dishwashers, and steam kettles.
Assist with supply orders and perform other duties as assigned.

Desired skills, knowledge, and abilities:

Knowledge of kitchen and dining room operations, including personal hygiene, sanitation, safe food handling, and housekeeping practices. Ability to learn and follow food preparation and serving routines, including therapeutic dietary orders, recipes, and menus. Ability to operate standard kitchen appliances, utensils, and equipment safely and effectively. Ability to receive, understand, and follow instructions from supervisors and lead workers. Ability to communicate clearly and work cooperatively with management, coworkers, clients, and the public. Ability to work effectively in a team environment and demonstrate sensitivity to cultural diversity.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of client and personnel information.

Additional information:

King County employees receive 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary and are eligible to receive a free ORCA card for transportation use.
Opportunities performed on-site at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary.
