SCHEDULE - Full-time, On-site



We are hiring for a variety of shifts.

Pay rate will depend on shift and weekends worked:


Days, 6am-3pm Swing, 2:30pm-11pm Nights, 10:30pm-7am

Shifts may includes weekends and holidays as needed. Schedule subject to change to meet the needs of shelter operations.


ABOUT GATEWAY WEST



Gateway West is Albuquerque's largest shelter, serving an average of 600 people per night, with cold winter nights bringing in more than 700 people, offering a safe and welcoming environment to people experiencing homelessness. The center is open year-round, offering meals, a warm overnight bed, and secure under-bed storage. Shuttle service is provided daily. The team provides easy access to trauma-informed services such as case management, job searching, and other supportive services. The team's goal is to guide guests through a successful exit from the shelter to safe, stable housing and a plan for ongoing support.


HOW WILL YOU MAKE AN IMPACT?



You will be integral in maintaining a safe, clean, and supportive environment within the shelter dormitories. You will oversee resident activities, ensuring compliance with shelter policies. In this role, you will be able to provide meaningful support to individuals experiencing homelessness. Your effort will contribute to the shelter team's goal of building daily community and respect among residents, empowering individuals navigate through challenges as they work towards stability and recovery.


Resident supervision,

including regular walk-throughs of assigned areas during shifts, addressing concerns and issues as they arise. Night shifts announce curfew and lights out

Resident support and conflict mediation,

including linking to resources such as job training, medical care, and housing support.

Safety, compliance and documentation,

including monitoring for safety hazards, medical and behavorial emergencies, reporting to leadership

Community building,

including organizing activities to foster social connections and group support.

roles

- some dorm monitors may be eligible to drive 15-passenger van to pick up referrals and transport residents into the community and shelter access points (not all dorm monitors will drive - this will depend on meeting eligibility criteria and can be discussed during interviews)*

You actively work to break down stigmas.

You are compassionate and non-judgmental towards individuals experiencing homelessness.

You've done this work before!

You know exactly what it means to work in a shelter that is fast-paced and highly active. You understand homelessness issues and are familiar with available community resources.

You are trauma-informed.

You promote safety, empowerment and healing, always recognizing the impact of trauma on an individual's experiences and behaviors.

You have experience with de-escalation and conflict mediation.

Your self-control, calm and professionalism in stressful, crisis situations are an asset to the team.

You have integrity.

You model accountability and integrity in all your interactions with teammates, leadership, community partners, and most importantly, with all shelter residents.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS




High school diploma/GED or equivalent experience; experience in social services or related fields preferred Prior experience working in a shelter, community organization, or social service setting is a plus Basic computer skills for record-keeping and reporting For approved drivers only: have a valid drivers license & CDL
