As a member of the DV Shelter Staff, you play a crucial role in creating a safe, supportive, and empowering environment for survivors of domestic violence and their children. Working directly with residents in a shelter setting, you provide compassionate support, crisis intervention, advocacy, and resources to help survivors navigate their healing journey and rebuild their lives free from violence. Responsibilities:
Direct Client Support:
Provide compassionate support and crisis intervention to shelter residents, including emotional support, safety planning, and assistance accessing resources and services.
Empower survivors to make informed decisions about their safety, well-being, and future goals, respecting their autonomy and confidentiality.
Advocacy and Empowerment:
Advocate for survivors' rights, needs, and choices within the shelter and in interactions with external agencies, systems, and service providers.
Assist survivors in accessing resources and support services, including legal advocacy, counseling, housing assistance, childcare, healthcare, and financial aid.
Safety and Security:
Maintain a safe and secure environment within the shelter, implementing security protocols, crisis response procedures, and safety measures to ensure the well-being of residents and staff.
Monitor shelter activities, enforce rules and policies, and address any safety concerns or emergencies that arise.
Case Management and Referrals:
Conduct intake assessments, develop individualized service plans, and monitor progress towards goals for shelter residents.
Make appropriate referrals and coordinate services with external agencies, community partners, and service providers to meet the diverse needs of survivors and their families.
Crisis Intervention and De-escalation:
Respond to crisis situations, conflicts, and emergencies within the shelter, using de-escalation techniques, conflict resolution skills, and trauma-informed approaches to support residents in crisis.
Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain accurate and confidential records of client interactions, services provided, and referrals made, adhering to agency protocols and legal requirements.
Complete incident reports, documentation forms, and case notes in a timely and thorough manner to ensure accountability and continuity of care.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's or Master's degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or a related field preferred.
Previous experience in social services, crisis intervention, or domestic violence advocacy preferred.
Strong interpersonal skills, empathy, and ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
Knowledge of domestic violence dynamics, trauma-informed care principles, and confidentiality protocols.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, demonstrate flexibility, and maintain professionalism in challenging situations.
Commitment to social justice, gender equity, and ending violence against women and children.
Salary Range:
$25,000 - $45,000
