The Lead Dog Trainer is responsible for delivering high quality dog training services while overseeing and mentoring a small team of approximately four trainers. This role combines hands-on training, team leadership, program development and client communication to ensure consistent training standards and exceptional customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
Training & Program Delivery
Conduct professional dog training sessions (mainly board and train, in-home and on-site).
Assess dogs' behavior, temperament and training needs, and design customized training plans.
Ensure humane, ethical and effective training methods aligned with company philosophy.
Monitor training progress and adjust methods as needed for optimal results.
Team Leadership & Management
Lead, supervise and support a team of approximately four dog trainers.
Provide coaching, mentoring and ongoing skill development for trainers.
Schedule trainers and allocate workloads to ensure smooth daily operations.
Observe training sessions and provide constructive feedback to maintain quality and consistency.
Assist with onboarding and training of new team members.
Quality Control & Standards
Establish and maintain consistent training standards and protocols across the team.
Ensure safety of dogs, staff and clients at all times.
Address training challenges, escalated behavior cases or client concerns.
Client Communication & Support
Communicate clearly and professionally with clients regarding training plans, progress, and expectations.
Handle complex or sensitive client situations when escalated.
Educate dog owners on proper handling, reinforcement and follow-through at home.
Operations & Administration
Maintain accurate training records, progress notes and reports.
Collaborate with management on program improvements and service offerings.
Support business goals such as client retention, referrals and program success.
Qualifications
Required
Proven experience as a professional dog trainer.
Strong knowledge of canine behavior, learning theory and training techniques.
Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work confidently with dogs of all sizes, breeds, and temperaments.
Physical ability to handle dogs safely and remain active throughout the day.
