Job Description

To effectively work and support network management and maintenance operations software to include: inventory, work orders, textbook software to maintain productive prioritized workflow systems. To have a working knowledge of or efficiently install, operate, program, up-grade, repair, re-purpose, maintain, software, hardware, Network peripherals and other electronic equipment. Provides technical and customer support to district staff in the use of computer hardware, software and communication devices.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:

  • High School diploma/GED Certificate
  • Valid Texas Drivers License
  • Acceptable criminal history record and fingerprinting results
Preferred:
  • Associate's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in computers or a closely related field.
  • A+ Computer Certification
Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Knowledge of operating characteristics, capabilities, capacities and limitations of computer hardware, software and related peripheral equipment.
  • Knowledge of modern office practices, methods and equipment including facsimile systems, copiers/scanners, electronic imaging systems and communication devices.
  • Knowledge of training practices and techniques.
  • Ability to install, maintain, configure, troubleshoot and repair a variety of computer hardware, peripherals and network cables
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to diagnose, evaluate and resolve technology related problems.
  • Ability to establish, maintain and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with district staff, students and patrons.
  • Proficient in typing, keyboarding, and file maintenance.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Experience:
Three years of progressively responsible experience in computer, network, and technology development and administration, with a strong preference for experience in computer/network hardware and system maintenance.
Major Responsibilities and Duties: * Perform tier one level support to install, repair and maintain computer equipment and network and software applications throughout the district.
  • Assisting with the installation of local area networks (LANs) and wide area networks (WANs).
  • Process, assign priority and respond to work order requests by diagnosing and repairing network, security and computer hardware.
  • Provide technical assistance to campus faculty and staff for use of computer hardware and software.
  • Installing patches, security updates, and new versions of software to ensure systems are secure and up-to-date.
  • Work cooperatively with end users to detect and resolve hardware problems.
  • Communicate with vendors to resolve end-user problems.
  • Maintain computer peripherals and related technology in campus labs and facilitate needed repairs.
  • Perform hardware and software upgrades.
  • Make evaluations and recommendations on all repairs and costs.
  • Serve as liaison to vendors who provide support for technology equipment and materials.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of hardware, software, and computer lab materials.
  • Performing routine checks, cleaning hardware, and optimizing system performance.
  • Identify, request and control inventory of repair parts.
  • Process insurance claims and repairs for the department.
  • Maintain physical and electronic departmental files.
  • Answer incoming calls, take reliable messages and route to appropriate staff; respond to questions and requests that fall within the level of responsibility.
  • Maintain and pursue relevant industry training to ensure up-to-date knowledge and skills. This may include attending conferences and certification training.

Working Conditions
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is required to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat and lift heavy equipment (50 lbs.) Also requires repetitive hand motions and prolonged use of computers and keyboarding. Some exposure to electrical hazards. Frequent district-wide travel required.
