**A valid Louisiana Class \'D" Chauffeur\'s license is required upon appointment**

Effective July 1, 2023 starting pay will be as follows:
DISTRICT SIGN SPECIALIST 1: $17.18/hourly
DISTRICT SIGN SPECIALIST 2: $19.67/hourly

As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancy may be filled from this recruitment as a District Sign Specialist 1 or District Sign Specialist 2 depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s). MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

No experience or training is required.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:

Must possess a valid Class D Chauffeur\'s License at time of appointment.

Job Concepts

FUNCTION OF WORK:

Learns to install, maintain and replace highway regulatory, guide and information signs in a Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) District.

LEVEL OF WORK:

Entry.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Typically, direct from a Highway Foreman 2. May receive supervision from higher level personnel.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

None.

LOCATION OF WORK:

Department of Transportation and Development.

JOB DISTINCTIONS:

Differs from District Sign Specialist 2 by the absence of experienced level District Sign Specialist responsibilities.

Differs from other maintenance jobs by the presence of duties specializing in sign installation and maintenance.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:

EXAMPLES LISTED BELOW INCLUDE BRIEF SAMPLES OF COMMON DUTIES ASSOCIATED WITH THIS JOB TITLE. PLEASE NOTE THAT NOT ALL TASKS ARE INCLUDED.

Learns to perform sign installation, replacement and maintenance on state highways in accordance with federal guidelines. This includes highway signing, construction signing, road closure signing, barricading, and other permanent and temporary signing.

Learns to operate and maintain all equipment to perform duties, including sign truck and small tools.

Learns to maintain daily work reports, materials used reports, truck inventory, and sign shop inventory.

Assists in determining exact placement requirements for speed zones, weight limits and other regulatory signing.

Learns to determine exact placement requirements for speed zones, weight limits, and other regulatory signing by interpreting legal orders establishing these regulations.

Cleans signs and performs discriminative tree and limb cutting to clear obscured signs.
