Under the supervision of the Executive Director of Student Achievement, the District Secondary Library Specialist will foster a love of reading and support literacy initiatives in the district's secondary schools' libraries. This individual will serve as the certified librarian at Ogden High School and provide comprehensive coaching, guidance, and oversight to secondary library staff assistants at Ogden High School, Mount Ogden Junior High School, George Washington High School, and Malan's Peak.
As one of three District Librarians, this position will also support educators in the use of library resources and provide district-wide professional development as needed, with a special emphasis on training library clerks and other support staff.
Job duties will include:
Serve as the librarian at Ogden High School, directing and supporting staff assistants to perform daily library operations, including working directly with students and teachers.
Provide coaching, training, support, and oversight to library staff assistants at designated secondary schools (Ogden High, Mount Ogden JH, George Washington HS, and Malan's Peak) in all aspects of library management, including:
+ Collection development and weeding
+ Inventory and circulation procedures
+ Procuring supplemental funding sources as needed
+ Supporting the school's curriculum, including IB program support at Ogden High School and Mount Ogden Junior High School
+ Meaningful collaboration with teachers
+ Classroom management and maintaining a welcoming environment
+ Advocating for library programming and services Work collaboratively with the other district library specialists as a team to provide procedures and guidelines for library staff and maintain the online library resource hub.
Oversee school library budgets and purchases.
Provide expertise in the ethical use of information, and provide research resources for teachers and students.
Participate in Student Achievement Department professional learning and meetings.
Facilitate district-wide professional development.
Collaborate with stakeholders to evaluate and improve the library program
Manage and promote Sora, the district's digital ebook and audiobook collection.
Allocate contract time for planning, district meetings, and project oversight.
Support district-wide literacy events such as the Storytelling Festival, Battle of the Books, History Day, and District Family Literacy events.
Participating in district-level collaborative meetings and contributing to the student achievement department's online resource repository.
Adhere to all expectations for district teacher specialists.
The District Secondary Library Specialist will be expected to appropriately manage their contract time to plan and implement the above mentioned activities.
The District Secondary Library Specialist's interactions will be governed by the district's teacher specialists expectations as well as the expectations listed below.

Valid Utah Educator License
Library Media Endorsement
Previous experience in a school library
Experience using Destiny Library Manager or other library management systems
RESPONSIBILITIES:
As a District Library Specialist in the Ogden School District, your responsibilities, first and foremost, involve supporting the library program across the district. This involves supporting our schools and our school library staff assistants as it pertains to:
Providing a positive learning environment in our school libraries
Creating a love of reading and learning in all of our students
Share ideas and resources throughout the school district and library program
Using Destiny, our library management system
Promoting Sora, our online ebook and audiobook collection
Actively engaging students in our libraries
Providing training in the use of technology for library clerks to support the library program
Providing professional learning for all library staff assistants to support students throughout our schools
Providing Collection Development oversight in assigned schools

PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES
Program Support
Attend to operational details of assigned secondary libraries; including schedules, activities, user/participant management, and supporting documents/resources.
Engage in regular planning sessions with the Executive Director of Student Achievement.
Utilize the developed communication processes to collaborate with the district, school, and community to improve understanding of the library program.
Understand and work within program budget priorities and constraints.
Professional Learning Support
Evaluate library data to determine the effectiveness of library program practices, resources, and services to improve student learning.
Assess the needs of school communities by reaching out to administrators, teachers, and other teacher specialists.
