Job Description


South McLean County Soil Conservation District in Turtle Lake, ND has a unique and exciting job opportunity just waiting for the right person to come aboard. We are currently seeking a customer-service focused District Clerk to work as part of our conservation team. Here are just a few things the job entails:

  • Aiding in bookkeeping responsibilities for the District. You\'ll work with Quickbooks Desktop Pro to enter invoices, bill and receive payments from customers.
  • Acting as secretary/treasure for the SCD Board of Supervisors. You\'ll be the person who develops (with input from the board and District Manager) and posts the monthly board meeting agenda, gets the packets ready, and takes meeting minutes.
  • Interacting with customers. You\'ll answer phones, take messages and answer as many questions as you can for our customers.
  • Partnering with the District Manager to develop tree planting plans. You\xe2\x80\x99ll work with customers to determine the soil type where the trees will be planted and determine which trees are suitable for that soil type. You will be assisting the District Manager with ordering the trees and shrubs from the nurseries and coordinating pick up times.
  • Partnering with the District Manager to plan public outreach, events and educational programs. You will assist the District Manager in planning and organizing public meetings, an annual awards banquet, family ag nights (community fun nights), and other educational opportunities the District hosts within the community.

  • Must be detail-oriented and self motivated with a minimum of basic-bookkeeping knowledge. QuickBooks, more specifically, QuickBooks Desktop Pro experience is preferred and will increase the applicants qualification ranking within the applicant pool.
  • Must have a strong focus on customer service \xe2\x80\x93 keeping the customer\xe2\x80\x99s satisfaction at the forefront of decisions (because without our customers where would we be?)
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team. Communication skills and a strong work ethic are a must.
  • Believes in working with a strong focus on safety to ensure you are safe and your team members are safe.
  • Must take pride in maintaining a clean and organized work area.
  • Can think outside of the box to solve sometimes complex problems.
  • Must be computer literate and can navigate through the Internet, e-mail, and can learn new computer programs.
  • Must have a valid North Dakota Driver\xe2\x80\x99s license.
  • Fluency in Social Media apps (particularly Facebook) is preferred as this position will be responsible for majority of these duties.
  • Capabilities of maintaining and updating an existing website built on the Wix platform along with the District Manager, this can be trained.

  • Willingness to assist in tree planting services out in the field should the help be required (typically during the time frame of May-June).

  • Pay is depending on experience.
  • During peak times of the season (May-June) hours will sometimes be over 40 hours per week in order to meet deadlines.
  • Full time employees will qualify for a Simple IRA with 3% Company match, paid vacation, paid sick leave and $5,000/year stipend paid at an hourly rate of $2.41/hour once a minimum 6 month probationary period is deemed successfully completed by the District Manager and the District Board of Supervisors.

Each year we plant thousands of trees across our District that create natural windbreaks and provide shelter and food for wildlife.
