Founded in 1647, Boston Public Schools (BPS) is the oldest public school district in the country.


With approximately 57,000 students from over 114 different countries, nearly 8,000 employees,


and an annual budget of $973 million, BPS is the largest district in Massachusetts and one of the most diverse as well.



Currently BPS has 128 schools utilizing three food service delivery models. Forty six (46) schools have full service kitchens with full time cafeteria managers and subordinate staff. Seventy eight (78) schools are satellite kitchen sites receiving meals from an outside vendor, contracted by BPS. In the 2017-2018 school year four schools participated in a pilot program introducing a new model called "My Way Cafe". In the 2018-2019 school year this pilot model will be expanded to an additional 26 schools. The My Way Cafe model is supported by a Central Distribution Center.

Department Facts:



Mission: offer students safe, wholesome, nutritious, enjoyable meals to fuel academic

excellence

Meals served: approximately 23,500 breakfasts and 35,600 lunches served daily;

approximately 7 -8,000 after-school meals served daily; 22,000 total summer meals

BPS utilizes Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), which enables the district to provide

free meals to all Boston students

Job Responsibilities:



Responsible for overseeing product staging process is being performed accurately and

timely

Reviews staging paperwork has been accurately filled out with all shortages and

substitutions reported timely to Warehouse Supervisor

Coordinates the picking process with team members; informs shippers if product needs

to be relocated

Ensures pallets and products are correctly labelled (route numbers; ship/received dates,

school names)

Confirms staged products and quantities match with the daily delivery paperwork Verifies all sanitation tasks have been completed in all areas of the warehouse Provides ideas for staging process; equipment and SOP improvements Assemble various types of food for shipment Transport orders to delivery platform with material handling equipment Mark/tag all packages shipped/received Transport products received to designated storage areas Consistently maintain product quality and integrity, immediately reports issues Ensure adherence to food safety and facility safety Perform quality and inventory control checks to ensure standards are met Take corrective action as necessary on timely basis and in accordance with Food & Nutrition Services standards, communicating inferior products or procedures Able to work in team oriented environment Follow all safety and sanitation requirements Keep work environment clean at all times - maintains cleanliness of distribution bins and

equipment, in addition to work, preparation and break areas.

Completes all other duties, as assigned

Required Qualifications:



Education: preferred at least through high school/GED, including basic computer skills At least 2 years of warehouse work experience Must be literate in English (read and write) Must be able to read and count accurately, detail oriented Able to calculate basic math Develop a good working knowledge of the product, placement, and inventory control

techniques and procedures

Experience with warehouse equipment (ride-on equipment, electric and manual pallet

jacks and etc.)

Strong attention to detail and ability to follow directions Food Safety Certification Physical: Walking, standing, reaching above shoulder level, stooping, lifting, carrying,

bending and pivoting.

Capable of sitting, standing and walking for extended periods of time. Ability to follow directions well Awareness at all times and knowing everything that goes on the floor, anticipating problems and correcting them Ability to lift up to 50 pounds Flexible about tasks and able to multitask and maintain a high productivity level Experience in fast-paced environment Reliable and dependable Capable of working full day in refrigerated environment - must be able to work in a

Multi-Temp warehouse ranging from sub-zero to the ambient temperature of the


outdoors for the entire shift without restrictions.

Strong ability to work collaboratively with a range of fellow workers

Preferred Qualifications:



Proficiency in inventory software, databases and systems Familiarity with modern warehousing practices and methods Good organizational and time management skills Forklift License/Certification Spanish language knowledge is a plus

Terms: Grade 3, Step 1. City of Boston Residency required
