Overview
Lead perioperative operations at a 330-bed acute care hospital and Level III Trauma Center serving southern New Hampshire and northern Massachusetts. This Director of Surgical Services role oversees 67 FTEs across 8 operating rooms including 2 dedicated cardiovascular ORs with surgical volume of 500-550 cases monthly. The facility features advanced robotics (2 da Vinci XI systems), comprehensive service lines including general surgery, vascular, CVOR, urology, gynecology, orthopedics, and neurosurgery, and nationally recognized cardiac and women's health programs including an innovative couplet-care birthing center. The position reports to the Administrative Director with direct oversight of 2 Certified Nurse Coordinators and CVOR lead tech. Responsibilities
Ensure high-quality, patient-centered care through oversight of surgical services including staffing, forecasting, planning, and budget monitoring.
Cultivate superior clinical identity by implementing evidence-based practices to advance patient safety and quality outcomes while ensuring adherence to standards of care.
Manage clinical practice variation to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and cost while fostering accountability and transparency in care delivery.
Stay abreast of benchmarks, accreditations, and designations while pursuing efforts to achieve regulatory compliance and excellence.
Develop and implement policies, procedures, and practices in compliance with Joint Commission, CMS, and state regulatory standards.
Ensure efficient patient throughput through volume forecasting, patient flow coordination, and admission/discharge planning.
Develop care coordination policies promoting improved quality, safety, and efficiency while fostering interdisciplinary collaboration.
Direct nursing practice and unit operations while developing standards ensuring patient and family needs are assessed, met, and evaluated.
Provide leadership in attaining unparalleled patient experience by instilling accountability for consistent, positive interactions.
Leverage feedback mechanisms to benchmark performance, identify improvement opportunities, and elevate patient satisfaction.
Foster culture inspiring commitment to organizational vision, mission, and values while ensuring employees are recognized and supported.
Participate in annual budget process including revenue/expense forecasts, staffing, and equipment needs while monitoring performance and addressing gaps.
Manage operating expenses, supply utilization, and equipment while identifying cost reduction opportunities and implementing savings strategies.
Address key performance indicators requiring improvement to meet organizational goals and operational excellence standards.
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from accredited program
Current New Hampshire RN license in good standing or active multi-state compact license
Minimum 3 years of Director of Surgical Services experience
Demonstrated expertise in perioperative leadership, multi-OR oversight, and CVOR operations
Strong leadership, strategic planning, and financial management skills
Experience managing Level III Trauma Center surgical services
Preferred:
Master's Degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or related field
CNOR (Certified Nursing Operating Room) or CSSM (Certified Surgical Services Manager) certification
Experience with robotics programs and cardiovascular surgery
Background in performance improvement and KPI management
