The Center for Immigration Law and Policy at UCLA School of Law generates innovative ideas at the intersection of immigration scholarship and practice; serves as a hub for transforming those ideas into meaningful changes in immigration policy at the local, state, and national level; and empowers students with unique opportunities for experiential learning through work with academics, practitioners, policymakers, and activists.
The Center is seeking a Director of Strategic Communications ("Director"). The Director will be an integral part of the Center\'s Leadership Team, providing strategic expertise in reaching and engaging diverse and sophisticated audiences?including policymakers, advocates, media, and immigrant communities themselves?to inform and reshape narratives in immigration law and policy. The Director, in coordination with CILP Leadership and with input from CILP staff, will develop and execute a robust strategic communications plan that includes written, visual, and digital components, with the goal of reshaping dominant narratives in the field. The Director will work with CILP leadership to develop and execute CILP\'s communication and marketing strategy to ensure that the program is highly visible.
Additional duties include supervising the Center\'s two-person Communications team; leading the development, implementation, and delivery of the Center\'s day-to-day communications work - including its social media presence, media relationships and outreach, website presence, press events, etc.; conceiving and executing highly-visible events that further the Center\'s mission; building and managing the Center\'s relationships with a deep network of journalists, campus communications professionals, and other key collaborators working in immigration law and policy; and participating in the Center\'s fundraising activities, including donor engagement.

Required/Preferred
Minimum of 10 years, of progressive work experience in strategic communications, outreach and/or social media.

B.A. Degree in Journalism, Communications or English or equivalent combination of education and professional experience

Demonstrated ability to conceive, develop, implement, and evaluate communications, marketing, and narrative change strategies with a high degree of professionalism, sensitivity, and integrity.

Demonstrated ability to collaborate with high-level academic and/or administrative leadership and senior departmental staff to identify communication needs and to conceive and execute programs and services to meet such needs.
