This role is within the Individual Operations department which is part of the Benefit Operations division. The Individual market is focused primarily on providing health insurance and ancillary insurance products to the non-group affiliated individuals. Individual Operations is primarily responsible for all post sale business processes including Enrollment, Customer Service, Claims, and Policy Administration.

Director of Product Management you will be responsible for bridging the gap between our owners of our operational business processes and the software development teams that support them. By understanding the business objectives, strategies, and financial and performance goals and capabilities of business stakeholders, you will identify opportunities to leverage software solutions, and lead management of software solution efforts to support operational processes. Includes improvement initiatives, administrative maintenance, and innovation projects, and to coordinate plans to execute solutions to achieve business performance objectives.

Within the role, you will establish and cultivate relationships with our business and development partners. You will also be tasked with monitoring and identifying technology opportunities, monitoring performance and issues, and bringing solutions options to address those needs. In addition, the role will lead and direct a team to coordinate implementation of programs and solutions, collaborate across the enterprise on new analytic offerings, and assist with quality and performance management.

We\xe2\x80\x99re looking for someone with a high degree of consultative experience, industry and/or data science experience, and well-developed communication, negotiation, and technical skills.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Defining and delivering capability business value; Demonstrates an understanding of business strategies and related synergies across the capability portfolio and where there are opportunities to engage cross-business to drive growth and broader impact; Critically evaluates information and recommends what should or shouldn\'t proceed; Demonstrates systems thinking and can readily identify downstream impacts of decisions and proactively construe alternatives; Is considered a trusted advisor for internal businesses and functional stakeholder to inform collaborative strategies
  • Anticipates customer needs for product enhancements and improvements and proactively proposes solutions to meet them; Responsible for specific services, functions, and solutions available internally or as a supporting element of a product; Positions in this function play a critical role in ability to deliver products to market and/or manage internal business functions; Capability management requires alignment to business and/or product strategy, effective design and development, and ongoing management of capability portfolio across the full lifecycle to ensure business-specific or cross-enterprise impact; Continuous business performance feedback including monitoring performance trends to identify capability strategies and customer use case scenarios. Positions in this function are accountable for delivering sustainable, financially sound solutions that solve a specific business problem and enable successful product delivery and/or internal business function performance, while driving adoption with internal business clients and define future capability direction that supports business strategy and new opportunities
  • Manages and leads a team of Product Owners, a well as cross-segment projects and initiatives that require problem solving, relationship building, and analyzing in a changing environment with frequent high levels of ambiguity
  • Ensures all operational elements of a capability (and its related portfolio) are understood and designed to meet business specifications; Documents a full operational view of the capability from vision to execution, to facilitate rapid implementation and launch; Validates the high-level vision across the enterprise and recommends prioritization of solution implementation. Develop project plans, anticipate, and prevent potential problems, aggressively resolve issues, and report status to manager and stakeholders
  • Leads capital requirement assessment; Anticipates product needs per long term product plans; Accountable for product performance as indicated in capital plan
  • Crafts a vision, identifies key activities, interdependencies, risks and priorities to achieve goals; Comprehends the entirety of the capability and applies to decision making process, taking calculated risks; Anticipates consequences of potential decisions
  • Works with technical teams to ensure understanding of the business value of development efforts; Works with development partners and stakeholders across various business divisions within the organization to ensure effective, efficient cross-functional product development and execution

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree or 4+ years of equivalent work experience
  • 5+ years of product ownership/product management experience
  • 5+ years of experience managing a team of Product Owners
  • 3+ years of experience in managing a project, including task development, timelines, assignments, understanding interdependencies, and active management of tasks and issue resolution AND experience pulling together project plans to keep teams aware of target dates and dependencies, times when resource/team support will be required, and escalation when tasks run off-track
  • 3+ years of experience in leading the development of a multi-year complex capability suite that supported the implementation or operation of multiple products and clients
  • 3+ years of experience in leading requirements definition in a matrixed environment
  • 3+ years of experience in supporting the release of a capability in a large operational environment
  • 3+ years of demonstrated experience in developing and delivering Communications (including business value, solution option, Roadmaps, and status) to Executives, Operators, and Technology teams
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree
  • Healthcare industry experience
  • In-depth knowledge of Agile process and principles
  • Proven excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Proven attention to details

California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, or Washington Residents Only: The salary range for California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island or Washington residents is $118,000 to $226,800. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
