We are seeking a hands-on, onsite Director of Human Resources to lead the HR function for a well-established food manufacturing organization based in Los Banos, California. This role is ideal for a California HR professional who excels in compliance, culture-building, and strategic leadership within a fast-paced production environment.
The Director of HR will oversee all human resources operations, including compliance, recruiting, compensation, and employee engagement. You'll be a visible leader onsite, supporting both hourly and salaried staff while partnering closely with senior leadership to align people strategy with organizational goals.
Key Responsibilities
Be fully onsite to lead HR operations and act as the primary point of contact for all people-related matters.
Manage employee relations and engagement efforts, resolving issues fairly while promoting an inclusive, positive workplace culture.
Oversee benefits administration, payroll accuracy, and compensation programs while ensuring compliance with ERISA, HIPAA, ACA, and related regulations.
Direct full-cycle recruitment, onboarding, and retention strategies in partnership with leadership.
Develop and maintain HR policies, training, and compliance programs, ensuring adherence to all California labor laws and wage/hour regulations.
Serve as the company's Privacy Officer and Plan Sponsor, upholding confidentiality and compliance standards.
Partner with operations and safety teams to maintain Cal/OSHA compliance, safety training, and workers' compensation administration.
Manage department budgets, organizational charts, and workforce planning.
Lead and mentor a small HR team to foster accountability, growth, and high performance.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field required.
Minimum of 5 years of HR experience in California, with deep knowledge of state employment law and compliance.
Minimum of 3 years in HR leadership or management roles.
Experience in manufacturing, agriculture, or food production strongly preferred.
Bilingual in Spanish highly preferred.
PHR or SPHR certification a plus.
Skilled in HRIS management, payroll processing, and benefits administration.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
