Dakota State University seeks a dynamic, student-centered DSU faculty member to serve as the next Director of the General Beadle Honors Program--a position dedicated to fostering academic excellence and enriching student experiences. The successful candidate will lead a thriving Honors community through intentional advising, strategic recruitment, and collaborative curriculum development. Key responsibilities include coordinating with campus partners on admissions and advising processes, mentoring students through course selection and thesis development, and collaborating on student life initiatives to create a vibrant residential experience. This role also involves working closely with faculty to develop innovative honors courses, guiding program oversight through committee leadership, and planning impactful events such as the annual Last Lecture. In addition, the director will manage the program's budget and partner with the Foundation to support fundraising and development efforts.
This position requires a 12-month commitment, with reduced flexible hours and location during the summer term. The director receives a 3-credit course release and a stipend of $7,500 annually.

Advising
Coordinate with Admission on campus registration events that welcome likely honors students
Work with Advising in monitoring registration for all incoming honors freshmen (requires summer contact)
In conjunction with Advising, communicate with all existing honors students during registration periods to advise them on honors requirements, available honors courses, and upcoming honors courses in future semesters (requires summer contact)
Serve as secondary advisor to every student in the program
Meet with upper division students and faculty mentors to discuss appropriate thesis projects
Recruiting
Work with Admissions & Marketing to coordinate communication with potential honors students and implementation of honors-specific recruiting events
Work with Office of International Studies to coordinate specific recruiting events and communications targeted to international students, monitor visa status, and regulate international admissions (requires summer contact)
Meet with potential students and parents during Discover DSU Days and other recruiting events
Correspond with students and parents regarding the honors program
Oversee applications and admission via SLATE software
Housing
In conjunction with Residence Life, recruit and manage incoming freshmen interest in the freshman Honors floor and Van Eps House for upperclassmen (requires summer contact)
Recruit existing honors students as Honors RAs
Plan and execute Honors Freshmen Move-in Day
Curriculum
Plan annual honors course rotations and faculty assignments in conjunction with Department Chairs and the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences (requires summer contact)
Identify and recruit faculty to teach honors courses as needed
Work with faculty to develop appropriate honors course content
Program Oversight
Serve as Chair for the Faculty Honors Committee to oversee all honors curriculum matters, event planning, and programming
Meet with Honors Student Advisory Council as faculty advisor and assist in the planning and delivery of honors related special events
Plan, organize and carry out the annual Last Lecture event
Meet regularly with the Provost to discuss the honors program
Budget, Finance, and Development
Plan and oversee the honors budget in conjunction with processes from the Office of Budget and Contracts
Work with the Foundation to identify and pursue appropriate honors-specific development opportunities
Identify, plan, and execute, in conjunction with the Foundation, fundraising opportunities such Day of Giving.
