Job Summary
The Director of Engineering is responsible for overseeing all the administrative, financial and operating aspects of the conference center as they directly relate to the engineering division by developing and implementing strategic objectives. He/she will direct, coordinate, train and supervise the Maintenance, Painting and Grounds team. This position will also facilitate and assist with all facilities projects while ensuring the safe and profitable operation of the conference center.
This position is on-site, generally a 45 hour workweek.
The rate for this position is $90,000/year.

Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree with 6 years of progressive facilities/engineering management experience in a large full-service hotel or comparable facility.
Working knowledge and experience with Maintenance Management Systems required.
Stationary Engineer's license preferred.
Strong practical knowledge and skills in commercial HVAC, electrical, plumbing, general maintenance operations required.
Strong familiarity with commercial building construction standards and codes required.
Extensive experience in developing, managing, reporting and successfully achieving financial targets
Physical Requirements
Flexible and long hours sometimes required.
Heavy work - Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and /or 50 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
Minimal travel required.
Fundamental Requirements
Manage maintenance, painting and grounds staff by motivating, training, coaching and counseling employees, communicating job expectations and appraising their performance.
Interview candidates for open maintenance, painting and grounds positions and follow standards for hiring approval.
Supervise, administer and ensure timely completion of all activities of the Engineering Department, ensuring all standards are followed.
Develop labor schedules that align with operational needs ensuring guest and client satisfaction; make changes for-the-week, in-the-week as business changes occur and communicate changes timely and appropriately.
Create zero based department budget via established guidelines; complete forecasts to incorporate business changes as requested by management.
Monitor department labor costs and expenses and manage appropriately to meet financial goals.
Actively participate in monthly budgetary and operational review meetings.
Oversee and participate in Q Center procedures regarding Purchase Orders (Maintenance Management System, Birchstreet) receiving and processing invoices, and updated PO tracker in a timely manner.
Maintain comprehensive documentation for all building operational systems and projects.
Develop a detailed project plan, evaluate and provide monthly reporting on the status of completed, open pending work orders.
Be involved in and/or conduct departmental training; developing employee morale and skills.
Organize and conduct department meetings on a monthly basis.
Ensure compliance with all regulatory agencies including but not limited to Federal, State, OSHA, and CDC.
Utilize systems, tools and other information to manage and assign departmental work responsibilities, assuring adequate staff and supplies are available to perform such tasks.
Maintain inventory control and ordering over departmental equipment, parts, supplies and keep the Maintenance Management System up to date and accurate, keeping costs in line with approved budgetary amounts.
Create and implement a preventative maintenance program for all mechanical equipment.
Ensure that all emergency and life safety equipment and systems are inspected, tested and certified per Q Center standards.
Ensure that room maintenance requests are handled in a prompt and courteous manner.
Regularly inspect and evaluate physical condition of the facility; develop, propose and implement special projects, repairs and renovations.
Actively participate in energy conservation programs.
Review all guest comment cards related to the engineering department to ensure problems are identified and corrected in a timely manner; respond to guests directly within established guidelines.
Ensure implementation and compliance of all Q Center Policy and Procedures.
Establish and maintain relationships with third parties/vendors, overseeing and managing all vendor contracts controlled by the engineering department.
Participate and take an active role in leading Q Center's Safety Committee.
Maintain radio contact with the Department Staff and other Departments throughout shift, responding to all inquiries in a timely manner using proper etiquette
Conduct employee performance reviews in accordance with Q Center standards
Oversee departmental use of the Maintenance Management System and co-manage the system with Technology.
Develop project scopes and objectives, involving all relevant stakeholders and ensuring feasibility within scope, timeframe and budget.
Oversee, team with and coordinate the efforts of all outsourced engineering related contractors and service providers including Siemens (building automation and HVAC equipment); ensuring all parties are on track with any requirements, deadlines and schedules for project execution.
Serve as a liaison with the City of St. Charles for all building code, inspection and regulatory matters.
Maintain safe, clean and orderly mechanical spaces.
Provide labor and supplies necessary to support to other departments within the Q Center.
Coordinate all repairs in such a way as to eliminate or minimize disruption to guests and employees.
