Overview



The Director of Development is responsible for leading the overall fundraising strategy and execution at Project 48, with a strong emphasis on increasing individual giving. This role reports directly to the Executive Director, working closely with our contracted grant writer and Board of Directors to develop and implement a strategic fundraising plan that sustains and expands the organization's impact.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Development is responsible for leading the overall fundraising strategy and execution at Project 48, with a strong emphasis on increasing individual giving. This role reports directly to the Executive Director, working closely with our contracted grant writer and Board of Directors to develop and implement a strategic fundraising plan that sustains and expands the organization's impact.

The ideal candidate is a relationship-builder and strategist who thrives in a mission-driven, collaborative environment and brings proven success in donor cultivation, stewardship, and development operations.

This full-time, 40-hour-per-week position is based in our Portland office.

Fund Development Strategy



Design and implement an annual development plan focused on increasing individual giving Collaborate with the Executive Director and grant writer to build and manage an annual grant calendar and identify funding priorities Develop systems for donor segmentation, prospecting, and move management Track fundraising goals and produce regular reports for leadership and the Board Develop and lead a targeted corporate partnership program, with a focus on businesses that serve or support youth

Individual Giving & Donor Engagement



Cultivate and manage a portfolio of individual donors, including mid-level and major donors Develop donor communications, appeals, and stewardship strategies to build long-term relationships Plan and execute donor-centered campaigns such as end-of-year giving, monthly giving, and peer-to-peer fundraising initiatives Support donor events and community engagement opportunities

Grants & Sponsorships



Partner with contracted grant writer to support application timelines, content development, and reporting Research and recommend new grant opportunities Build and maintain relationships with foundation program officers and philanthropic leaders to support long-term funding partnerships Assist with securing sponsorships for events, as well as stewarding business and corporate partners

Development Operations



Maintain donor records in Bloomerang with accuracy and confidentiality Ensure timely donor acknowledgment and compliance with gift processing procedures Contribute to the development of fundraising collateral in partnership with the communications team Uphold ethical fundraising standards and donor confidentiality

Key Performance Goals:



Revenue Growth: Achieve or exceed the annual fundraising revenue goal, established collaboratively with the Executive Director and Board of Directors. Individual Giving: Grow the recurring donor base. Major Gifts: Build and actively manage a qualified portfolio of individual donors; complete meaningful donor interactions per month; and secure new or increased gifts annually. Pipeline Management: Implement and maintain a clear moves management system to track donor cultivation and stewardship; ensure 90% data accuracy and completeness within Bloomerang, including contact information, next steps, and donor stage tracking. Events and Campaigns: Lead the planning, execution, and growth of annual fundraising events and campaigns (this includes Impact Night, and our Charity Golf Tournament) to meet or exceed event revenue and engagement goals. Collaboratively set annual fundraising targets and develop a channel-level plan across individual giving, grants, corporate partnerships, and events.

QUALIFICATIONS



Required:



4+ years of experience in nonprofit development, with a focus on individual giving Demonstrated success in donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship Strong organizational and strategic planning skills Excellent verbal and written communication skills Familiarity with donor CRM systems (preferably Bloomerang)

Preferred:



Knowledge of Portland and Oregon's broader philanthropic and nonprofit community Experience working in youth development, foster care, or trauma-informed spaces Experience collaborating with grant writers or managing grant processes Experience developing relationships with foundation representatives and navigating institutional funding landscapes

Pay: $75,000.00 - $78,000.00 per year
