Summary Description: Director of Accounting will oversee general accounting operations for one or more subsidiaries of Mahi Pono, LLC, by reviewing, recording, and reporting on our financial transactions.

Primary Responsibilities:

Lead and elevate the Accounting team, managing 2-3 direct reports and 3-6 indirect reports, with a focus on coaching, professional development, and instilling a culture of accountability and high performance. Own the monthly financial close process end-to-end, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and robust internal controls across journal entries, account reconciliations, bank reconciliations, fixed assets, and other key areas. Deliver executive-level financial reporting, including Balance Sheet, Income Statement, and Statement of Cash Flows, ensuring outputs are accurate, timely, and decision-useful. Support Risk Management and Treasury for cash management, liquidity, and compliance initiatives. Prepare and present special financial analyses and reports for senior management, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities to inform decision-making. Lead the annual external audit process, serving as primary liaison with auditors and ensuring smooth execution, minimal adjustments, and timely completion. Oversee inventory accounting processes, ensuring accurate counts, valuation, and alignment with operational and financial systems. Drive excellence in Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable, implementing process improvements, establishing productivity targets, and ensuring adherence to internal control standards. Champion process improvement and systems initiatives, including expense reporting, AP automation, inventory management, and payroll interfaces, to streamline workflows and improve accuracy. Demonstrate agility in a fast-paced environment, consistently meeting deadlines while maintaining precision and attention to detail. Provide ad hoc analysis and take on additional responsibilities as needed, contributing as a proactive business partner to leadership. Performs other duties as assigned.
Skills, Knowledge, Abilities:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting required; CPA strongly preferred. 10-15 years of progressive accounting experience with deep knowledge of US GAAP and proven technical expertise. Experience in agriculture, distribution, or manufacturing industries strongly preferred. Track record of building, managing, and developing accounting teams, with strong leadership and interpersonal skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to simplify complexity and drive sound recommendations. Highly organized, with the ability to prioritize competing demands and deliver under pressure. Strong work ethic with advanced technology and systems proficiency. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel required; experience with NetSuite or other ERP systems a significant plus. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly and professionally across all levels of the organization. Must be able to work on-site in Maui and embrace the collaborative, hands-on environment of the organization.

Pay: $140,000.00 - $175,000.00 per year
