Director, Bioinformatics

Description:

We are currently looking for an experienced Bioinformatics Leader with exceptional coding abilities and genomics tool development experience to join our team!

Responsibilities

• Co-lead assay development by providing guidance for experimental design, analysis and interpretation of sequencing data.
• Evaluate multi-omic NGS data from biological samples, interpret results in the context of systems biology, and summarize findings in publication quality tables and plots.
• Develop new software applications and algorithms or customize existing applications to meet specific scientific project needs. Design and apply bioinformatics algorithms including signal processing, unsupervised and supervised machine learning, dynamic programming, or graph algorithms.
• Design and manage back-end data repositories to store large amounts of data and develop user-friendly interfaces to interpret data.

Requirements

• Doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in bioinformatics, computational biology, statistics or a related discipline.
• 5-7+ years of industry experience in a relevant field.
• Demonstrated leadership skill, leading teams and projects. Demonstrated product development experience and full product lifecycle experience for either internal or external facing software or bioinformatic software systems
• Experience in analyzing large genomic/transcriptomic datasets similar to those generated using methods such as RNA-seq, single cell RNA-Seq, RIP-seq, and ChIP-seq. Expertise using off-the-shelf genomic analysis and tools for genomic and transcriptomic analysis including data quality control, adapter trimming, UMI filtering, alignment and reporting and display.
• Provide quantitative metrics from sequencing data to guide product development goals and interpret biological datasets.
• Manipulate publicly accessible, commercial, or proprietary genomic or post-genomic databases
• Fluent in python, and relevant modules, including numpy, matplotlib, pandas, pysam, cython.
• Demonstrated expertise in developing data models and databases and web-interfaces to using Django or other libraries. We prefer experience with SQL databases such postgresql or MySQL.
• Experience using Linux or other POSIX-compliant environment with demonstrated experience in shell (bash) command line and shell scripting, cron jobs, performance monitoring, connectivity to cloud storage.
• Must work significantly onsite for leadership and to take active part in a multi-disciplinary team
