We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Direct Support Professional (DSP) to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to providing high-quality care and support to individuals with developmental disabilities, ensuring their well-being and enhancing their quality of life. This role involves working closely with clients in various settings, including group homes, assisted living facilities, and in-home care environments.
Responsibilities
Provide direct support and assistance to individuals with developmental disabilities in daily living activities (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and meal preparation.
Monitor and document patient vital signs and overall health status, ensuring compliance with care plans.
Assist clients with mobility needs, including the use of Hoyer lifts when necessary.
Engage clients in meaningful activities that promote social interaction and personal development.
Maintain a clean and safe environment for clients by performing light housekeeping duties as needed.
Administer medications as prescribed and ensure proper documentation in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
Provide companionship and emotional support to enhance the well-being of clients.
Collaborate with healthcare professionals, social workers, and family members to develop individualized care plans tailored to each client's needs.
Participate in training sessions to stay updated on best practices in patient care, including first aid and CPR.
Qualifications
Previous experience working in home health, hospice care, assisted living, or long-term care settings is preferred.
Familiarity with patient observation techniques and monitoring vital signs is essential.
Experience working with individuals with autism, dementia, Alzheimer's disease, or other developmental disabilities is highly desirable.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team environment.
Knowledge of caregiving best practices and ability to assist with meal preparation and cooking for clients.
Ability to perform heavy lifting when assisting clients with mobility needs.
Certification in First Aid and CPR is a plus; willingness to obtain certification if not currently held.
