Job Overview


The Direct Support Professional (DSP) plays a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for individuals with disabilities or special needs. This position involves providing compassionate care and support in various settings, including group homes and community environments. The DSP is responsible for assisting clients with daily living activities, fostering independence, and ensuring a safe and nurturing atmosphere.

Duties



Assist clients with personal care tasks, including bathing, grooming, and dressing. Prepare nutritious meals according to dietary guidelines and individual preferences. Maintain a clean and organized living environment for clients. Support individuals with autism or other developmental disabilities in social interactions and daily activities. Monitor clients' health and well-being, reporting any changes to appropriate personnel. Administer medications as prescribed and ensure proper documentation of medication administration. Engage clients in recreational activities that promote social skills and personal growth. Collaborate with healthcare professionals and family members to develop and implement individualized care plans. Provide companionship and emotional support to enhance clients' overall well-being.

Skills



Experience in caregiving or patient care, particularly within group home settings. Knowledge of meal preparation techniques that cater to specific dietary needs. Strong cleaning skills to maintain a hygienic living space for clients. Familiarity with working with individuals on the autism spectrum or those requiring specialized support. Ability to monitor patients effectively, recognizing signs of distress or changes in condition. Proficient in medication administration protocols and documentation practices. Excellent interpersonal skills to build rapport with clients and their families. Understanding of social work principles as they relate to client support and advocacy.

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
