Position Description

TITLE: Direct Lending Underwriter I

DEPARTMENT: Lending

REPORTS TO: Vice President of Consumer Lending

SUPERVISES: N/A

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

Purpose




Responsible for underwriting loan applications submitted by branch and Contact Center team members. Gathers background information and analyzes loan applicant's credit history. Approve or deny loan applications based on analysis. Request additional information or suggest alternative products when a loan has been denied as submitted. Recommend additional products for cross sells. Operate with Board approved credit authority.

Duties and Responsibilities



Approve or deny loan applications as outline in the EFCU Financial Policy Manual. Review background information on loan applicants which includes but not limited to employment and payment history. Obtain credit reports for all accounts, verify debts, estimate monthly payments for any outstanding debts not listed and add them to debts on applications. Calculate debt-to-income ratios on loan applicants. Determine amount applicant is eligible to borrow. Determine sufficiency of collateral. Work closely with branch and Contact Center team members to ensure completeness of applications. Offer alternatives to perspective debtors and counseling to those in financial difficulty. Create closing documents when necessary. Verify the accuracy of completed loan packages. Provide reports as requested. Cross-sell lending products and other Credit Union services when appropriate. Understand and apply new loan products and services in accordance with Management direction. Support the Mortgage Lending, Indirect Lending, and Lending Contact Center Departments as needed which includes but not limited to conveying information to pre-closing applicants, survey, appraisal and title search results, document scanning and post-closing review. Serve as back-up support in these departments when needed. Assist in other assigned duties.

Minimum hourly rate: $22.69




Requirements:

Critical Knowledge, Skills, and Educational Requirements:



High School Diploma or equivalent. A minimum of 2 to 5 years' experience in lending at a depository financial institution. Must be eligible to register with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System & Registry (NMLS) and must maintain registration with NMLS as a registered Mortgage Loan Originator (MLO). Understanding of federal and state lending laws and regulations. Excellent telephone etiquette and verbal communication skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Exceptional organizational skills. Must be dependable and reliable. Must pass all credit and bond requirements. Knowledge of Credit Union products and services is a plus.
