Hawthorn Children's Psychiatric Hospital provides specialized care for children and adolescents diagnosed with mental illness. We are looking for a positive and energetic Direct Care Aide who has an interest in helping children with mental illness maximize their potential.
Hawthorn Children's Psychiatric Hospital uses the Sanctuary Model to guide our interactions with our teammates and the care we provide to our consumers in order to promote healing, safety, and nonviolence. This is accomplished by following the Foundation of Sanctuary - The Four Pillars of (1) Trauma Theory, (2) Seven Commitments, (3) S.E.L.F. (Safety, Emotion, Loss, and Future), (4) Sanctuary Tool Kit.
Responsibilities - What you'll do
Responsibilities:
This is a PRN position restricted to 1,040 hours per year
Performs basic non-professional psychiatric and general nursing work.
Work involves establishing effective interpersonal relationships with residents, co-workers and other members of the health care team.
Contributing to the maintenance of a therapeutic environment.
Rendering basic nursing care.
Assisting individuals with daily living and hygiene tasks
Observing, reporting and recording changes in the physical condition, behavior response and emotional status of individuals
Participating in activities with the individuals
Reporting to work on time and as scheduled
Qualifications - All you need for success
Qualifications:
No experience necessary and training is provided
Must be 21 years old
Must possess a valid driver's license
Pass a background screening
Able to lift 45lbs vertically from floor to shoulder height
Run, walk or jog a distance of 400 yards
Pull 45lbs at least 20 feet
Kneel on floor to perform CPR
Implement crisis intervention techniques and emergency treatment procedures
Demonstrate strong leadership and team building abilities
One or more years of work experience or self-employment
