Dining Room Manager/Instructor with Events Experience

. Walnut Hill College is considered an industry leader for 50 years with many unique features including our on-site restaurants and pastry shop.

The position is a full-time faculty position at Walnut Hill College. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all event sales and service as well as supporting dining room operations to ensure exceptional experiences for our guests and students. As a member of the faculty, you will also be responsible for teaching, training, developing and mentoring our students in Events and Front of the House Operations in our fully student-run restaurants.

Applicants should hold a Bachelor's Degree or higher in the hospitality field. Prior teaching experience is preferred, but not required. Familiarization with Toast is preferred. Understanding of how to use Learning Management Systems, specifically Populi, is beneficial. Successful candidates will utilize interactive and creative methods for achieving course goals and learning outcomes. All instruction is on-ground.

Key Responsibilities



Dining Room Operations



Oversee daily operations of the dining room, ensuring smooth service and adherence to established standards. Monitor table turns, seating arrangements, cleanliness, and ambiance. Manage opening and closing procedures, including checklists, cash handling, and staff communication. Respond promptly and professionally to guest concerns, feedback, and special requests. Maintain familiarity with menu offerings, seasonal changes, and beverage selections to support staff and assist guests.

Events & Banquets



Manage all event inquiries. Coordinate and support the execution of private dining, banquets, and special events. Serve as the on-site point of contact during events, ensuring client satisfaction and resolving issues proactively. Support post-event evaluation to identify opportunities for improvement.

Student Instruction Training



Instruct, train, and supervise students in proper dining room and event service. Provide ongoing coaching to support development, performance, and service consistency. Conduct pre-shift briefings, service training modules, and event walkthroughs. Foster a culture of hospitality, teamwork, and accountability. Ensure student compliance with safety, hygiene, and alcohol service regulations.

Qualifications



Bachelor's Degree in the field of Hospitality Management or Event Management studies; Associate Degree with significant experience may be considered. 10+ years of front-of-house supervisory experience, preferably in a fine-dining or upscale casual environment. Proven experience managing events, banquets, or private dining programs. Strong leadership, communication, and team-building skills. Exceptional guest service orientation and conflict resolution skills. Ability to multitask, prioritize, and remain calm under pressure. Working knowledge of POS systems, reservation platforms, and event-management software, specifically Toast, is strongly preferred. ServSafe and RAMP certifications are preferred; will be required after hiring.

Physical Requirements



Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Ability to lift and carry up to 30 lbs. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and event-heavy schedules.

Work Environment



Our fully student run, open to the public restaurants are open Tuesday - Saturday from 5:30 - 10:30. The dining room service is part of a course for which the instructor will be responsible.
