The Phoenix Police Department is seeking Detention Officer Trainee\'s while they obtain the necessary experience, training, and qualifications for this job. The training period will allow time for candidates to successfully complete the MCSO Detention Officer\'s Academy or equivalent at the first available opportunity and subsequently complete the three-month Phoenix Police firearms training and qualifications. Once the requirements have all been met, the candidate will be promoted to the Detention Officer job classification. The duties of this position will include taking custody of prisoners from arresting officers; processing prisoners into the City\'s booking facility; searching prisoners and securing prisoner\'s personal property; fingerprinting and taking mug shots; completing required documentation and forms; operating computers to obtain warrant and record information; maintaining jail facilities and equipment; safely transporting prisoners when necessary; and working in cooperation with Maricopa County Sheriff\'s Office personnel at the county jail. This Special Detail will carry a firearm as part of their uniform and will be required to maintain firearms proficiency throughout their career. The work environment and physical demands may require the following: Perform physical tasks. Bend, reach, kneel, and crouch; stand and sit for long periods of time. Perform defensive tactics which require quick reflexes, agility, coordination, and strength. Move objects weighing up to 50 pounds. May on occasion involve moving heavier objects and materials (100 pounds or greater). Work irregular hours, shifts, weekends, holidays, and evenings may be required. Require work outside in a variety of environmental extremes such as heat, cold, rain, air pollution, and dust. Work Location: Most work is performed in a holding facility or in vehicles while transporting prisoners, with occasional work performed in an office environment. A Detention Officer Trainee must be able to react quickly and effectively to physical confrontations and emergency situations and may be required to use enough legal force to restrain violent/combative prisoners.

SALARY





$19.93 (minimum) - $29.25 (maximum) hourly / $41,454.40 - $60,840.00 annually

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS




  • Two years public contact experience
  • Equivalent to a high school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum qualifications may be substituted

  • Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver\'s license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS





The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:
  • Fluent in Spanish
  • Experience as a Detention Officer.
  • Knowledge of CLIPS, RMS and Pre-booking.
