The Madison County Sheriff\xe2\x80\x99s Office is presently taking applications to establish an eligibility list for the position of Deputy Sheriff (Road Patrol), which currently one position exists and for two Deputy Sheriff (Jail) positions. Nebraska Law Enforcement Certification is not required. A Deputy with the Madison County Sheriff\xe2\x80\x99s Office (Road Patrol) will perform all related duties of the patrol division, with a take home patrol vehicle. A Deputy with the Madison County Sheriff\xe2\x80\x99s Office (Jail) will perform all related duties of the Jail division. This a great opportunity for those who wish to get started in law enforcement and obtain certification, with future opportunity to transfer to patrol division. Minimum Required Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to meet, communicate, and work with general public effectively and to react calmly, quickly, and accurately in emergency situations essential.
• Must successfully pass literacy, physical, background, and psychological exams, as well as a Basic Training Academy as provided or approved by Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center.
• Minimum age 21 years.

Hiring Process Lateral Transfer: Persons applying for a Lateral Transfer will have the status of the Nebraska Law Enforcement Certification verified. Only those whose certificate is in good standing will be considered. Out of state certifications must meet the NLETC standards for certification. Qualified applicants will be invited to participate in an oral interview with the County Merit Commission. Those who complete a successful interview will be placed on an eligibility list which is valid for six (6) months. Those on the eligibility list will be considered for employment. Uncertified Candidates: Following a review of all applications, qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the hiring process. Written and physical tests will be utilized to evaluate the qualifications and fitness levels of those selected, to be able to enter the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center. Applicants must achieve a passing score on all examination components, complete background paperwork, and have a successful Merit Commission interview in order to be placed on the eligibility list. Posted salary negotiable based on certification, experience, and qualifications.
