Direct all activities of the Aviation Education & External Engagement Division. Responsible for the development of the agency's aviation education program and strategies to continually advance and enhance aviation education in the Commonwealth. Directs the development, implementation, and management of the agency's strategic communications, public relations, and branding. Develop and implement programs to promote aviation workforce development. Oversee the agency's responsibilities with external groups and programs including: the Governor's Aerospace Advisory Council, the Virginia Small Air Transportation Systems, and the New Airline Service Incentive Fund. Provide oversight of the Aircraft Registration program. Serve as a member of the Director's leadership team, representing the agency director at his behest. Provide leadership and guidance to the Aviation Education & External Engagement team members.
Minimum Qualifications
Comprehensive knowledge and experience in the development of a well-rounded aviation education program. Extensive knowledge of aviation and aviation-related technologies. Understanding of the principles, concepts, strategies, and methodologies of public relations and communications services. Diverse experience in coordination and integration of various programs to include aerospace education, administrative services, Virginia aviation regulations, Code of Virginia, and Federal Aviation Administration regulations. Ability to positively represent the agency and aviation to media, citizens, elected officials, and aviation stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to identify, organize, prioritize, and accomplish tasks to keep projects moving ahead simultaneously. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Understanding of social media platforms, maximizing those platforms as part of a strategic communication plan. Ability to lead and inspire division team members. Ability to administer public and agency programs. Ability to work independently while maintaining momentum and work under stringent deadlines. Effectively communicate with government officials. Ability to direct news media activities. Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply guidelines, policies and procedures. Demonstrated ability building relationships, problem-solving, decision-making, and diplomacy. Manage and work as part of a team to accomplish agency's mission and goals.
Additional Considerations
Pilot's license and additional endorsements such as Instrument, Commercial, and part 107 license. In-state and out-of-state travel required for agency and industry events.
