This is administrative work, which may include coordination of recurring events, investigation and research, statistical analyses, coordination of activities of the Department, and/or relieving the supervisor of a variety of administrative duties. Work is directed and reviewed through the establishment of goals and subsequent evaluation of progress toward goal attainment.

Examples of Work Performed

Serves as ex-officio, non-voting member of the Board of Bids and Contracts and shall prepare the minutes of the proceedings of the Board.
Administers the Oath of Office in the absence of the City Clerk.
Assists with updating the Code of the City of Wichita.
Organizes ordinances, resolutions and supporting documents to include assigning numbers, overseeing publication, and scanning of documents for retention after adopted by the City Council.
Prepares and sends condemnation hearing notices and annexation notices to appropriate parties within and outside of the City organization.
Coordinates with departments on agenda edits and supporting documentation.
Composes correspondence frequently not subject to review.
Conducts research and prepares reports with recommendations of proposed solutions and courses of action.
Oversees licenses needing City Council approval.
Prepares documents to be recorded with the Register of Deeds.
Receives inquires and furnishes information requested for internal and external customers.
Confers with citizens and representatives of other organizations.
Completion of work assignments may require the operation of a vehicle.

Requirements of Work

Considerable knowledge of research techniques and sources of information.
Knowledge of information resources and information evaluation and reporting techniques.
Knowledge of the practices and principles of municipal government.
Knowledge of the standard computer keyboard configurations and ability to access, interpret, and record information using a video display terminal and electronic keyboard.
Knowledge of laws, ordinances, and regulations governing municipalities.
Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 52 pounds.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, other employees, representatives of other organizations, and the public.
Ability to acquire and maintain a valid Kansas driver's license.
An employee shall not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.
Experience and Training

Required Experience and Training:
Graduation from a four-year college with a degree in public administration, business administration or a social science
OR
three years of clerical experience working in municipal, or county government office.
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need of a sponsorship.
Attainment of passing scores on pre-employment tests. Candidates with the required experience and training will be required to take the following assessments:
Business Writing
Clerical Proofreading
Preferred Experience and Training
Certified Municipal Clerk's designation.
Offers of employment will be made contingent upon passing a pre-employment physical, which will include drug screening, and upon satisfactory evaluation of the results of a police records check. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need of a sponsorship.
