Position Summary

The Department Manager is the lead administrator within the Department of Mechanical & Materials Engineering (MME) and the Department of Engineering & Technology Management (ETM), responsible for the following essential functions: (1) administration and operations, (2) staff supervision, (3) budget oversight and management, and (4) human resources and personnel management. The incumbent works autonomously to fulfill the expectations of the position, threading justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion throughout daily decision-making. The Department Manager requires both empathy and sound judgment to ensure compliance and continuous improvement within a complex university environment.

This 1.0 FTE, 12-month appointment reports directly to the MME Department Chair, with a dotted line reporting relationship to the ETM Department Chair as well as the Assistant Dean for Finance & Administration. The Department Manager works closely with the MME staff team, other Department Managers within the Maseeh College of Engineering and Computer Science, and staff across campus.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor\'s degree
  • 3 - 4 years of budget management, financial accounting, and supervisory experience
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master\'s degree
  • Proficient in MS Office suite, especially Excel
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Familiarity with Banner, Cognos, and other systems used at higher education institutions
  • Detail-oriented; capable of organizing and planning complex tasks
  • Attentive to deadlines with an ability to prioritize importance of task completion
  • Aptitude for managing conflict
  • Proactive style and positive attitude
  • Skilled in working with a diverse population
  • Focus on continuous improvement

Work Days/Hours Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm
Total Compensation Range & Benefits Statement

The starting annual salary rate for this position will be between $58,836 and $69,876 dependent upon qualifications and experience with an excellent benefits package including 95% premium paid healthcare; a generous retirement and vacation package; and reduced tuition rates for employee, spouse or dependent at any of the Oregon University System schools.
