Responsibilities
Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments, setting up surgical tools, and ensuring all necessary supplies are ready for procedures.
Assist surgeon during a variety of surgical dental procedures, including removal of wisdom teeth, extractions, ridge preservation, dental implants and consultations.
Maintain aseptic technique throughout all procedures to prevent infection and ensure patient safety.
Manage patient positioning, monitor vital signs, and assist with medical imaging such as X-rays or 3D scans as needed.
Assist with chairside procedures by providing clear explanations of treatments using appropriate dental terminology and ensuring patient comfort.
Conduct routine infection control protocols and maintain knowledge of anatomy to assist effectively during complex procedures. Employ techniques to optimize efficiency during procedures.
Monitor patients' vital signs before, during, and after treatments; recognize signs of distress or complications promptly.
Maintain detailed records of medical history, dental records, and imaging results for each patient in accordance with privacy standards.
Experience
Prior experience working in a dental practice or healthcare environment is highly preferred; oral surgery experience is preferred.
Proficiency in dental assisting techniques including chairside assisting, infection control, aseptic technique, and anatomy knowledge is required.
Familiarity with dental imaging equipment including X-ray machines and 3D scanners is advantageous. A current State of Maine Radiology license is preferred.
Understanding of HIPAA regulations related to patient privacy and data security is mandatory.
Strong communication skills using clear dental and medical terminology are necessary for effective team collaboration.
Certification in basic life support (BLS) or CPR is preferred but not mandatory; ongoing training opportunities are available for professional growth.
