Responsibilities
Assist dentists during a variety of dental procedures, including restorative, endodontic, prosthodontic, and pediatric treatments. Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments and ensuring all necessary supplies are ready for patient care. Take and develop dental X-rays using digital imaging equipment such as 3D scanners and other medical imaging tools. Maintain accurate medical records and documentation in EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems like Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or Epic while adhering to HIPAA regulations to protect patient privacy. Perform chairside assisting with aseptic technique to prevent infection and ensure patient safety. Monitor vital signs and assist with medical documentation when necessary for comprehensive patient care. Support infection control protocols and maintain a clean, organized clinical environment following OSHA standards. Provide excellent customer service as a dental receptionist by scheduling appointments, managing patient flow, and answering questions professionally. Utilize dental terminology confidently to communicate effectively with team members and patients. Assist with medical coding and record-keeping for insurance claims and billing processes related to dental procedures.
Qualifications
Previous experience working in a dental clinic setting is highly preferred; familiarity with general dentistry, pediatric dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and medical terminology is advantageous. Proficiency in EMR systems such as Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or Epic is essential for managing patient records efficiently. Knowledge of infection control practices, aseptic technique, anatomy, and medical imaging ensures safe and effective patient care. Ability to perform X-ray procedures accurately while maintaining safety standards for patients and staff. Strong understanding of dental assisting procedures including four-handed dentistry and chairside support techniques. Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain procedures clearly using appropriate dental terminology. Certification in CPR or Basic Life Support (BLS) is preferred; ongoing training in HIPAA compliance and infection control is expected to stay current with industry standards.
