Duties and responsibilities included, but not limited to:
To provide chair side assistance to a licensed dentist, residents, and undergrad student in the General Practice Residency Clinic.
Assist dentist and dental students with chair side treatment of patients
Maintain and stock cabinets/carts
Instruct and evaluate students in proper four-handed dentistry techniques
Chart patients according to LSUSD systems (Axium, Schick CD Rand computer knowledge)
Give follow- up home instructions as directed by dentist or student
Implement and maintain infection control in the work area
Check inventory and order supplies when needed
Implement and follow safety guidelines as set forth by LSUHSC School of Dentistry and OSHA
Know dental terminology
Know correct nomenclature of all dental instruments
Knowledgeable of computers
Take x-rays in Schick CDR/CT scans /No Mad
Make study models from alginate impressions or use the intra-oral scanner as directed by the dentist or student
Take alginate impressions as directed by the dentist or student
Take and record pulse, blood pressure, and temperature
Place or remove preformed crowns and bands when directed by a dentist or student
Remove sutures and ligature ties as directed by the dentist or student

Appointment Type: Classified Probational
Career Progression: This position does not participate in a Career Progression Group.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; work hours will be determined.
Compensation: There is a Special Entrance Rate (SER) of $15.05 per hour for the Dental Assistant 2 title and $14.06 for the Dental Assistant 1 title with an additional $2.25 per hour worked available for candidates that hold a current DANB (Dental Assisting National Board) certification.
This position does not require applicants to take a Civil Service test.
Pre-employment Drug testing and Criminal Background check are required.
This position will require selected applicant to be in a probationary status for at least 6 months
