Job Summary

Responsible for the Administrative Computing's databases, supporting software and tools, and the servers on which they reside. Plan, organize, manage, and coordinate the design, maintenance, security and control of database structure and college data. Establish, oversee, and enforce database standards, analyze informational requirements, and develop database specifications. Establish and enforce controls to ensure database referential integrity. Direct and approve code development.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities & Knowledge Skills & Abilities

Knowledge and ability to: administer complex, large scale production Oracle database in a 24x7 web environment; plan, test, and implement backup and recovery using a variety of tools including, but not limited to, exp, RMAN, DBMS_JOBS, Unix scripting and crontab; tune database's initialization parameters and server kernal settings for high profile, 24x7 performance and availabilityKnowledge and ability to plan, organize, manage and coordinate the design, maintenance, security, and control of database structure and data, enforce database standards and integrity, and develop and enforce database-related standards and procedures. Knowledge and ability to administer Sungard/SCT Banner administrative products, to include, but not limited to Student, Human Resource, Finance, Luminus, integrated portal, and workflow applications. Knowledge and ability to administer software and applications related to supporting Banner and other college administrative functions, to include, but not limited to relational databases, and integrated report formatting, eLearning, and payment applications. Preferred applications and software include: Oracle (all products, including but not limited to, database, application server, reports, forms), PL/SQL, SQL, web access methods to database (including but not limited to Oracle packages), Luminus, SCT's Workflow, WebCT, SQL Server, TouchNet Payment Gateway. Ability to make knowledgeable decisions that impact the entire college population's ability to access data. Knowledge and ability to administer Windows and Unix (Sun Solaris preferred) servers. Knowledge and ability to administer software to support database including but not limited to, Oracle's Suite of Products (Oracle Application Server, Oracle Reports, Oracle Forms, Oracle Enterprise Manager, Apache Server), monitoring tools, etc. Knowledge and ability to plan, organize, and implement disaster recovery plans. Knowledge of integration technologies as they relate to Banner and portals and web technologies. Knowledge and ability to: develop products and code in Banner-related software and languages, teach and train Banner-related software and coding in languages used by Oracle and Banner, and utilize systems analysis and design effectively. Knowledge and ability to organize, plan, and execute technical projects. Knowledge and ability to effectively serve on and lead institutional and state-wide Banner committees. Serve on committees and teams and assist with special projects. Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students. Knowledge and ability to proactively identify and provide solutions for issues and problems that arise, and remain current in emerging technologies related to relevant databases and servers.


Minimum qualifications

Bachelors Degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field required. Experience may not be substituted for education requirement. Minimum 4 years full time, Oracle database administration experience with database administration as the primary responsibility, preferably in a Higher Education environment.
