Job Description


The Data Architect will be a critical part of the IT team, reporting to the Senior Director of Business Intelligence and Data Management. In this role you will lead the design and build of Global\xe2\x80\x99s emerging data architecture. As Global launches initiatives to build an enhanced digital strategy and expands its cloud-based data sources, this role is critical to our future success.

The successful candidate is passionate about all aspects of data and understands both the latest methods of data architecture and design as well as the latest database technologies and platforms. Experience in the Energy Industry or Retail is not required but is a plus.

We offer a flexible work environment. This means working up to 2 days a week remotely and the rest of the time in the office.

Responsibilities
  • Design and create the organization\'s data architecture, including databases, data warehouses, and data lakes.
  • Build and maintain conceptual, logical and physical data models to ensure integration of enterprise data. Create and maintain other documentation as needed, such as data dictionaries and data flow diagrams.
  • Define and enforce standards and guidelines for data management.
  • Determine how data will be stored, consumed, integrated and managed.
  • Ensure that databases and business intelligence solutions are implemented according to sound data management principles and best practices.
  • Conduct data analysis and data profiling to identify data quality issues and to recommend solutions to address those issues.
  • Collaborate with business partners to establish shared master and reference data. Ensure consistency and reusability through data consolidation, conformance, and standardization.
  • Establish guidelines for data governance and master data management.
  • Understand Global\xe2\x80\x99s business processes and perform analysis to identify data requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Understand the market for data related technologies and drive the selection of tools, vendors, applications, and platforms to support business information needs.
Qualifications
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills is an essential requirement.
  • 10+ years of IT and business/industry work experience
  • 7+ years of experience working in a Data Architect role
  • Expert level knowledge of data modeling, master data management and database design from conceptualization to database optimization.
  • Extensive experience in data profiling, metadata management, data modeling, and related tools.
  • Working knowledge of established and emerging data technologies, including in-memory or columnar databases, data ingestion tools, cloud database, and data lakes.
  • Proven experience in implementing more than one data warehouse or data mart. Experience should include dimensional modeling, ETL/ELT and reporting.
  • Proven experience designing and implementing a large scale customer data platform.
  • Working knowledge of primary cloud platform providers (GCP, AWS, Azure).
  • Working knowledge of cloud data lake and data warehousing platforms such as Snowflake, Databricks, Singlestore, or others.
  • Knowledge of data governance tools and processes. Experience with identity resolution.
  • Understanding of data warehouse life cycle, SDLC, methodologies, and source code control.
  • Deep SQL skills. Up to date on current SQL best practices, new features and capabilities.
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree preferred.
  • Energy and/or retail industry knowledge is preferred but not required.
