The Custodian/Environmental Services Technician is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment throughout the facility, including laboratories, offices, corridors, conference rooms, elevators, lounges, and restrooms. This role ensures all assigned areas meet high standards of cleanliness and infection control.
General Cleaning Duties (All Areas):
Remove trash and soiled linen from assigned areas.
Perform high dusting on all surfaces above shoulder level (ledges, door frames, vents).
Clean and spot walls to remove spills, splatters, or marks.
Clean and disinfect external vents and grilles.
Damp wipe and disinfect all ledges, furniture, window sills, and low surfaces.
Sweep, mop (dry/wet), vacuum, and perform spot cleaning on floors and carpets.
Clean interior windows, glass partitions, and mirrors as assigned.
Report any maintenance issues, safety hazards, or supply shortages to supervision.
Area-Specific Cleaning:
Laboratories:
Ensure all surfaces and fixtures are sanitized according to safety and hygiene standards.
Remove all waste, including linens and trash, and restock supplies as needed.
Offices:
Maintain cleanliness of workstations, furniture, and floors.
Perform detailed dusting and vacuuming (approx. 6.7 total area units).
Conference Rooms & Auditorium:
Clean tables, chairs, and presentation surfaces.
Vacuum and mop floors; ensure a professional appearance for meetings and events.
Elevators:
Clean and disinfect walls, buttons, and tracks.
Polish stainless steel and glass surfaces.
Restrooms (Men's & Women's):
Clean and disinfect toilets, sinks, and counters.
Refill dispensers (soap, paper, sanitary supplies).
Empty trash receptacles and ensure odor control.
Monitor for cleanliness throughout the shift.
Corridors & Lounges:
Maintain floors (mopping, vacuuming, spot removal).
Clean glass panels, doors, and handrails.
Ensure hallways and lounges remain presentable and free of debris.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Previous custodial or housekeeping experience (healthcare or laboratory environment preferred).
Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and perform physical tasks such as bending, lifting, and standing for long periods.
Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, safety protocols, and infection control standards.
Strong attention to detail and reliability.
Work Environment:
This position involves working in laboratory, office, and restroom environments. Use of cleaning chemicals and personal protective equipment (PPE) is required.
