GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
We are seeking a dependable, detail-oriented Custodian to join our facilities team at the Thyra Thomson Office Building. This position is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for all state employees and visitors and will have a mid-shift from 12pm-9pm Monday through Friday.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed at the job level.
  • Responsible for general cleaning, vacuuming floors and furniture, emptying trash and recycling containers, dusting, mopping, sanitizing, washing windows and mirrors, and cleaning/stocking restrooms, bathrooms, and offices.
  • Learns where custodial supplies are kept and replenishes supplies when needed.
  • Observe and identify areas that need repair and submit information to the supervisor.
  • Complies with state and federal policies such as OSHA and EPA.
  • Operates and maintains equipment, including vacuums, riding floor cleaners, floor buffers, carpet cleaners, and hand and shop tools.
  • Moves furniture and sets up conference rooms for meetings and events.
  • Performs designated watchman rounds to ensure security and safety, checks building systems for proper function, and updates security logs.
  • Performs chemical renovations.
  • Monitors fire protection systems.
  • May assist with outside building and grounds duties such as trash and snow removal.
Qualifications
PREFERENCES:
Preference will be given to applicants with prior experience working with PPE, emergency procedures, event setup and coordination, cleaning methods, cleaning materials, and chemicals.
KNOWLEDGE:
  • Knowledge of materials, supplies, equipment, and methods of more technical cleaning and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of power and manual tools.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
High School Diploma
Experience:
0-6 months of progressive work experience (typically in Building and Grounds)
OR
Education & Experience Substitution:
1-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Building and Grounds)

None
Necessary Special Requirements
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Exposure to hazardous materials, bodily fluids, chemicals, bio-hazards, and elements.
  • Must be able to drive vehicles and operate large, complex cleaning and grounds maintenance equipment.
  • This is a custodial position with a shift from 12pm-9pm.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
