The Curriculum Developer/Instructor shall develop, deliver, and evaluate courses, lessons, presentations, and other programming to improve faculty expertise with respect to teaching, learning technology, instructional design, and related topics. Programming may include multi-day courses, single lessons that take one (1) to three (3) hours, customized workshops, and/or special events. Topics may include adult learning theory, instructional strategies, instructional design and development, assessments, communication skills development, the purposeful use of learning technology, the scholarship of teaching and learning, programmatic evaluation, and other similar subjects important to teaching and the instructional design of curricula for adult learners in military education organizations. Responsibilities:
  • Following the ADDIE Model or a similar instructional systems design process, design, develop, and evaluate and/or modify existing courses and programming on designated subject areas to be used in education and training conducted in various modalities (face-to-face, online, and hybrid), to include activities such as: developing/modifying teaching plans, course outlines, case studies, exercises, and faculty development materials; reviewing/updating course syllabi; identifying and incorporating reference materials, assessments, evaluations, etc.; supporting development with a detailed management plan (schedule, cost, and performance); authoring curriculum and/or supporting curriculum development by reviewing, validating, researching, and updating learning materials; organizing, story-boarding, designing, and implementing course materials; providing support with on-site personnel and/or subject matter experts (SMEs).
  • As tasked, inform and instruct AUTLC personnel and AU faculty regarding evidence-based best practices for effective instructional design and the most current, peer-reviewed educational methodologies and tools for development of educational programming and associated products while demonstrating impeccable interpersonal skills and customer service ethos.
  • Assist with the research, design, creation, implementation/instruction, evaluation, and maintenance/revision of faculty development products for use at the AUTLC and AU schools and programs. Formulate tailored learning plans to meet requirements levied by the University and other stakeholders, such as the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Air Education and Training Command (AETC), and regional accreditation bodies. Negotiate with stakeholders to reach best possible outcomes in keeping with teaching and learning best practices and the mission and vision of the AUTLC.
  • Identify and arrange for presenters to facilitate educational programming; use subject-matter experts, databases, and other credible sources to identify speakers for relevant topics; plan and execute the logistics of obtaining and hosting appropriate presenters; evaluate presenters; and prepare after-action reports.
  • Use the full capability of knowledge/course/learning management systems and instructional strategies to provide robust educational opportunities such as scenario-based learning, problem-based learning, simulations and gaming, analytical problem solving, team collaboration, critical thinking exercises, and other strategies for academic degree-granting and continuing professional education programming. Adhere to best practices for competency-based education and authentic assessment in doing so.
  • In coordination with the Learning Analyst, assist the AUTLC and University\xe2\x80\x99s assessments functions with comprehensive assessments/evaluations of education and training programs and products created and/or managed by AUTLC. Make necessary adjustments to content and processes based on these assessments and to meet strategic intent.
  • Develop course enhancements for current programming as subject matter dictates. As tasked, provide reviews and recommendations for improvement for courseware and related materials owned by AU schools and programs.
  • Facilitate informal and formal learning opportunities for adult learners in a military environment, to include teaching a foundational faculty development course, ad hoc workshops and webinars, and consultations with faculty.
  • Aggressively seek out emerging trends in the field of teaching and learning and prepare presentations of findings and recommendations that emphasize immediate application to the Air University mission. As requested by AUTLC, share these findings and recommendations with stakeholders throughout Air University, AETC, the Department of Defense, the multinational forces, and others in academic colloquia.
  • Perform project management/process improvement activities, such as creating work breakdown structures/project plans and providing recommendations and implementation on the viability of new technologies/processes for research and faculty development to enhance student learning activities. Synchronize curricula pipelines and schedules.
  • Research, prepare, present, and participate in meetings, reviews, briefings, and conferences. Research and prepare slides, agendas, minutes, and other program support products using the AUTLC\xe2\x80\x99s software and hardware (note: the AUTLC is currently using Microsoft Office products including Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Excel as well as Canvas as the AU Learning Management System (LMS)).
  • Other duties as assigned


Qualifications:
  • Possess a graduate degree (doctorate degree preferred) from an accredited institution in a field directly related to education, such as curriculum and instruction, educational psychology, or learning assessment.
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience working in degree-granting adult learning environments (at the Associates, Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s, Master\xe2\x80\x99s, and/or Doctoral levels) in an instructional capacity (in which the majority of duties performed were in direct instruction of adult learners).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Must demonstrate a thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Must be capable of translating their significant knowledge of and experience in instructional systems design (ISD) to the instruction of diverse faculty populations and the design, development, and evaluation of related programming.
  • Must possess ability, knowledge, and experience to independently create and deliver resident, blended, and online instruction in synchronous, asynchronous, and hybrid formats under a deadline.
  • Must have knowledge of and commitment to using emerging technologies and alternative delivery methods appropriately, including online delivery, hybrid course options, content software, web enhancements, etc.
  • Must have exceptional organizational and communication skills and the ability to work independently on multiple concurrent and high-visibility projects under a deadline.
  • Must demonstrate impeccable interpersonal skills and customer service ethos, especially in dialogic learning environments and consultation/coaching scenarios.
  • Prior experience working in military learning environments is preferred.
