Job Description

The Fashion and Retail Studies program at Ohio State seeks an innovative staff member that serves as Curator of its Historic Costume and Textiles Collection in support of the curricular and research activities in the academic program. The curator will regularly install exhibits in a newly-renovated gallery as well as collaborate with external venues (60%).


As a member of the FRST team, the staff member will teach up to 9 credit hours (3 courses) per year as needed in the Fashion and Retail Studies program (30% FTE).


The staff member is further expected to participate in fashion and retail studies program activities and curriculum development using the costume collection, and work with students in extracurricular environments is expected (10% FTE).

As lead person for the Historic Costume and Textiles Collection, curate exhibitions, oversee faculty and student exhibitions, promote the Historic Costume and Textiles Collection with internal and external constituents including Friends of the Collection (.6 FTE administration/curation). Teach the equivalent of three 3-credit hour courses per year (.3 FTE teaching) Service to program, department and college (.1 FTE service)

Detailed breakdown of tasks:

60% - Manage Historic Costume and Textiles Collection

Conduct all aspects of work related to maintaining the collection Grow the value of the collection Responsible to installing the collection in the newly renovated Campbell Hall Actively fundraise to secure the collection's future Collaborate with academic colleagues, staff, students and outside scholars to ensure collections are accessible for academic research, learning and general interest. Strong knowledge of historic fashion and textiles Use Past Perfect or other indexing software used for historic collections
30% - Teach Fashion and Retail Studies courses

Teach 9 credit hours of Fashion and Retail Studies courses, especially our highly successful, General Education-approved course CSFRST 2374 Twentieth Century Fashion and Beyond Work with Fashion and Retail Studies to the collection in other courses Update syllabi for courses regularly Use Canvas online learning system or similar LMS
10% - Service to the program, department, and profession

Actively participate in Fashion and Retail Studies program development Actively participate in department-related teaching and program innovations Serve the Fashion and Retail Studies profession locally and nationally

Required Qualifications:



Bachelor's Degree in Fashion and Retail Studies or Museum Studies or related area Textile conservation knowledge and experience Curatorial and exhibition experience with historic apparel and textiles Successful teaching experience both in-person and online including large courses. 6 years of relevant experience required.

Desired Qualifications:

Knowledge of Past Perfect(preferred) or other museum collection software. 8-12 years of relevant experience preferred.
