Job Summary

The Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine (PVM), Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences (VCS), invites applications for a full-time (100%, 12 month) Clinical Assistant or Associate Professor position in Small Animal Primary Care (SAPC). The successful candidate will join an established primary care service with two ABVP board-certified clinicians and three veterinary nurses, two of whom are VTS-certified (AVTCP - canine/feline). The primary care service has an average case load of 3,000 visits per year and performs routine dentistry procedures with an average case load of 300 per year. The primary care service has the support of, and access to, all the resources of the Purdue University Veterinary Hospital, an on-site clinical pathology laboratory, and the Indiana State Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory. The PVM is highly supportive of individual faculty career growth and development, including an active formal faculty mentoring program.

General Information

The Purdue Veterinary Hospital recently completed a major expansion project. The David and Bonnie Brunner Small Animal Hospital added 65,000 square feet to the existing small animal hospital facilities in Lynn Hall of Veterinary Medicine.

Qualifications

Qualifications for the position include a DVM or equivalent degree, ability to practice as a licensed and accredited veterinarian in Indiana, and a minimum of 3 years of primary care practice. All faculty in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences must be board-certified by an AVMA recognized specialty (i.e. American Board of Veterinary Practice [ABVP]), so interested candidates that are not board-certified will be expected to, and supported in, obtaining board certification within 6 years of employment. Candidates must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills and work collaboratively with other faculty and staff. Excellent teaching skills or the ability to demonstrate a sincere interest in developing strong teaching skills is required. Salary will be commensurate with the candidate\'s qualifications and experience. A background check is required for employment by the University.

Job Responsibilities

The expectations for the position include: 1) serving as the SAPC section chief with responsibility for section leadership including service growth, team development and management, and clinical education management; 2) clinical, didactic, and laboratory instruction of veterinary medical and veterinary nursing students; 3) clinical service commitment of approximately 70%, providing wellness, dental, medicine, and surgical services for primary care patients; 4) collaboration in clinical research projects; 5) participation in engagement activities, including committee work, PVM sponsored programs, and delivery of continuing education programs.
