As an unassigned critical patient resource, The Critical Care Float RN responds to Rapid Response calls, Code Blue, and other medical emergencies throughout the hospital. In addition to providing direct care to critically ill patients, the Critical Care Float RN provides clinical support and education to the nursing staff. The position is based primarily in the Emergency Department and rounds to other patient care areas to assist with assessments and critical care education.
DEPT. SCOPE OF SERVICE
This is a Float position, with the expectation that the RN will provide care in any department at BMH that provides critical care services. This includes the Emergency Department, Progressive Care unit, and Post Anesthesia Care Unit.
The Emergency Department is a Level III facility according to the guidelines of the Accreditation Manual for Hospitals. The seven bed unit is open 24 hours a day with at least one physician on duty at all times and a roster of on-call physicians and specialists available within thirty minutes. The Emergency Department also provides a Safe room specifically designed to care for patients who are experiencing violent behavior or suicidal ideation. The patient population includes patients of all ages, and care provided ranges from definitive treatment of non-urgent, urgent and emergent medical/surgical conditions to stabilization and transport of the critically ill or injured. Birthing Center nursing staff is available for consultation or to assist in the care of neonates, infants and obstetrical patients.
The Progressive Care Unit is a combined Med-Surg/ICU, acuity adjustable unit. It consists of 18 private rooms with capacity to flex up during periods of high census and contains 5 high acuity rooms as well as one isolation station. Lower acuity patients are managed via a substation. the Progressive Care Nurse also provides Level I Post Anesthesia Care for surgical patients during hours when the PACU is not operational.
The PACU has an area for the immediate preoperative care and reassessment of patients for surgery, for the admission and discharge of select ACU patients, and primarily, for provision of intensive observation and care of patients following operative and special procedure.

Graduate of accredited RN program. BSN preferred.
EXPERIENCE/SKILL SETS:
Recent Emergency Department / Critical Care experience preferred
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION(S):
Required prior to hire:
Registered Nurse currently licensed by the State of Vermont
BLS Healthcare Provider status
ACLS within 3 months of hire
PALS within 6 months of hire
NRP within 6 months of hire
TNCC within one year of hire
CCRN, CEN, ENPC, STABLE, and ASPAN preferred
OSHA CATEGORY
OSHA Category I - Tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues require use of techniques of Universal Precautions as evidenced with blood borne pathogens standards.

The listed range represents the pay scale reasonably expected for a successful candidate based on factors such as relevant experience, education, internal equity, and market competitiveness.
